What point are you trying to make?

Are you blaming the players for wanting to earn a living for Toronto going under?

I think it's more likely to be mismanagement I've seen it before.

"Mercenaries"? Give it a rest they are players who have a short career.

The players that can't get other clubs should be helped out to keep them in the game and because its the right thing to do. In the past they've been able to pay players by advancing sky money when clubs have got into bother but obviously that's not possible with the Wolfpack.

That should be the end of them competing in England.

Does anyone know how the Aussie players stuck over here are getting on? Have they been able to get back or have they been able to avoid eviction?

Being overpaid to play in new territory seems to be the epitome of being a "mercenary".(not that it has worked out that way) and yes SL or The RFL should certainly help out those players.
Surely, we would expect this to happen if any other club. Allowing the players to become free agents and sign for other clubs should be the minimum.
Mind you, how many players do they now have left on their books, it cant be many ?

It seems pretty poor form on the part of their very wealthy former owner. Although it may not be his legal responsibility, its not great and just seems another extremely valid reason to preclude them from competing in SL next season - even though all of the noises seem to be that they will be back in

And the Geek shall inherit the Earth!

i'm also getting fed up of seeing McDermot's open begging letters basically saying that they're really, really sorry for all the brown stuff we (he) were shovelling and for the good of the game Toronto should be allowed back in.

They knew the situation before they joined and yes, covid has caused this. But equally, covid has shown the fragility and stupidy of it.

Regardless, I'm sure they'll be let back in with 'as long as you promise never to do it again'. If they are let in, they should be given a points reduction next season. If they want to play in the league, they need to abide by the previously set rules of the league regardless of location. Giving them assistance was OK, but after this, it can only go so far.

The whole thing is a joke.

As it stands, the $Billionaire owner decides to walk as he has the opportunity to realise his dream and move to Melbourne Storm.....

Then several real English Championship clubs start putting up their hands to make the effort and investment to fill in for the phoney club......

So Superleague decide instead to start crawling to Hunter to see if they can carry on on an idea that NARL is somehow doing better than MLR Union

So the potential new owner starts dictating terms demanding SKY money, in a no strings return to Superleague.

Then despite the need to sort something out soon it all goes dead as we go into what is seemingly a second week of talks

Can't work it out unless it's something about saving face in the sporting world? After all this was the big expansion that was to take the game out of the North and across the world.

The majority of the comments on this thread are laughable. ''Kick Toronto out'' etc etc, no opinions of any substance and stereotypical.

If this was a Uk club, this thread would sound very different.

But it’s not a UK club. Every club has difficulties but none of the other 11 SL teams have pulled out.

If Hudds, Wakey, Cas or other SL team pulled out there would not be this post because they would be summarily kicked out and if allowed to compete in the Championship be starting with a 12pt deduction.

It’s your post that illicit’s laughter and amazement...

Toronto saying that they wouldn't take any TV monies as they wanted their own deal in N. America was a definite mistake on their part.
I dont think they were precluded from a share of the Sky monies, it was more a case of them opting out, which no doubt helped their smooth passage into "our" comp.

That's just wrong, and I don't know what on earth this "own deal in North America"?? was!! They certainly were precluded from a share of the SKY monies against their wishes.

"Perez believes the financial issues caused by not being able to play home games this year have been exacerbated by TWP not taking a share of central funding - something Perez claims it was initially agreed they would be eligible for prior to entering League One. In response to Perez's claims, the RFL issued a statement underlining that all discussions regarding Toronto being accepted into the British professional game were on the understanding they would not receive central funding."All discussions with Toronto prior to their entry into League One were on the basis that the club did not receive central distributions”

No need to reply, the record is straight on this now.

Don't encourage him, he deliberately puts these posts in for reactions. Does it on TRL as well, and last time the "reaction" was deleted by the mods as that's his oxygen.....Anyway........

There have been some basket cases struggling at the bottom of SL, Celtic Crusaders 2009 and London Broncos 2014. Despite serious money problems they both saw it out. In this case it's different - the owner had the money to see it out. But the game seems to want to ignore that the sum needed was peanuts against the man's wealth and the excuse was that somehow this pandemic makes extremely rich people poor.

The stock market isn't suffering and shares can be traded for cash in a matter of minutes. There is so much disingenous about this pantomime.

But real shock here  is that somehow only four SL clubs are saying no to the proposed re-instatement in which SL are somehow supposed to get a share of TWP's latest "Snake Oil" project (do you remember the last one launched in their name?), so what is it with the others?? :?:

What is driving seven SL clubs to want to save them and probably several ambitious Championship clubs to keep quiet? Logically saving TWP saves part 2 of the plan (Ottawa) and Part 3 (New York) - I you can think why let me know mate....

They should give (and should have given previously), TWP their full share of the pie.

If they don't bring TWP back in, they will HAVE to give whoever replaces them a full share.

TWP on a full share brings far more to the game (at least potentially), than bringing in any other club, bar perhaps Toronto.
