I think Rico's feeling a bit tetchy based on what I've just read on the Wire forum.

Poor guy should enjoy the moment.... it's been a while since they've taken points off little old Salford. :D

Ha ha "tetchy" I don't think so 'mystic' Slim, although I'll readily admit that your recent run is a local 'problem' to me as a resident of the city and a genuine interest in the robust health of RL. I was hoping that you'd win the Challenge Cup and perhaps used it to kick on and gain some more support and interest. I took 'my' semi final beating fair and square in a local Holt's PH vault where I watched the game....I got over it.

My comments were in response to posts on the other site, most were one eyed, some were ridiculous. My aim was to open up a discussion on the gamble of running with a thin squad with no apparent back up and a comparative to what I understand to be Wakefield's approach. According that that forum it seems that it is everyone's fault but Salford's..Genuine question is it?

Apologies for the unintended 'misdirection', the other "forum" is Salford's alternative independent fans forum, not the Wakefield board on here

You expect part-time players who haven't trained to step up and play a Super League game?
Right.

Some championship players are full time, and most train everyday anyway, even if only might be at a local gym (if possible) or at home.
Olly Ashall Bott & Tom Gilmore were signed up by Ottawa, but just 'keeping fit' till pre-season started, and they have done okay whilst playing for Salford.

Agreed, it's not ideal but I'd imagine the majority will have been keeping fit enough to do a job off the bench. It's not like the gyms are shut anymore.

I believe Ottawa are to be a full time club - in League 1.

I don't think any players of the 2 previously mentioned clubs are full time - nor have those clubs started training yet.

If Super League can now accommodate players who have 'trained ' in isolation, then assimilate into a team of players they have not played with before,it probably explains why some think the standard is dropping.

“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”

Re: Salford forfeit game against Wire : Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:41 pm
Ideally Super league clubs should have a reserve team and their own academy team, then they could play two games a week, and players would mostly only need to play once a week.

Unfortunately the state of the game in this country means a lot of teams don't do this.

It was inevitable this would happen, Salford shouldn't face punishment, but those in charge of the game should concentrate on producing more players at all levels of the game, and ensure clubs and community all work towards this goal.

It was only an alternative that was suggested, not something that should be implemented. A few clubs (like Salford) don't have an academy, and only have a small squad of players.
But they forfeited the game, and obviously you would prefer that to happen, rather than have 4 extremely unfit part time RL players (who all eat too many pies) on the subs bench.
