As a sport that meekly let them adopt the name "rugby world cup" I doubt very much we could go toe to toe in a media spat. It would be like the corner shop slagging off Asda.

If I were in such a position at SLE/RFL or able to pull the strings of both, then I could see mileage in this.

Take the headline/strap line & put out a video of some of the dreariest RU available to really sombre dreary music & a juxtaposing piece of hard hitting, fast & aggressive, skillful R.L to hard hitting rap or rock music & get it out there to as many outlest & as often as possible.

Get into a war of words with Kick & Clap, much in the same way as Wire & Salford did on Twitter.

Keep poking the fire & raising the profile, above all invest in the profile of Rugby League.

A little too ambitious for our current incumbents I suppose, but then I get the impression they don't like to think or do !!!

Yeah, we could have a 'my Dads bigger than your Dad' kiddy fight....

I do sometimes think we don’t get our voices out there enough? The Union England Ireland game was dire but the Union press waxed lyrical bout the defence & coaching. Was that not the time to point out that Ireland’s coach, England’s off half & captain not to forget one of their expert pundits were all products of the Wigan club. They also forget to mention where the defence coach who has so improved the French side came from. The only comment I heard in the Welsh game was about a tackle that went unpenalised as being like a League shoulder tackle ( ignoring the fact we have been rid of them foe a few years)
The only thing is that no matter what we say the press won’t upset the Union at any cost so our sport will get sidelined unless of course some idiot gets caught doing drugs or belting someone in a pub the it’s League star in disgraceful downfall.

Jon Clarke is involved with England as well, as well as George Ford.

I thought I had included Ford did he not come on as off half? But you get my drift, isn’t his dad still involved at a top club? I have lost track of their game.

There's been far worse ideas put through into being by the RFL that directly affect what goes on on the pitch and worse off it, as in absolutely nothing regards marketing the sport.

I think its a good idea.

Show a montage of the best tries (wigans try straight from a tap against toronto), biggest hits etc and finish with the tagline "Rugby League - For those who don't like scrums and line-outs"

Coach Jones reckons they need to make that game more fatiguing to make more space.
He has spoken to his old mate coach Price who tells him in the game the ball is in play for 68 minutes compared to at best half that in kick and clap.
Strap lines twice as much for your money twice as much action and on spring easily to mind,We should be pro active for our game.
Always thought its emperors new cloths with that game seems like people are beginning to notice. We should nudge them in the right direction

Who's the target audience for this marketing ?

I take your point, but I think one target audience is the number of fans we may have lost over the decade.

Not particularly mathematically accurate but Superleague nearly hit an average of 10,000 fans a game and that has dropped towards 8,000. So I think we can get a lot of old fans back and get a few more new fans in across the target audience.

It may help if the big clubs didn't keep wanting to have an edge by the marquee allowance, but that's maybe another debate. But if the current rules proved to be popular across our audiences, returning lapsed fans and bringing in new ones would be blooming marvellous.

What I have no time at all for is any of these pie in the SKY (no pun intended) ideas that some people have that people will see this new type of game and the World will all suddenly be playing and watching Rugby league to the exclusion of every other sport going. If this is the way to modernise the dinosaur of Rugby and make it more attractive and profitable then market forces will force Union to follow anyway (slowly bit by bit) no matter what their purists say.

When Union got rid of the maul which was an orgy without the sex, and the ball was simply recycled they did their game a massive favour to be fair.
