If the supermarket shelves are anything to go by, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the fans are staying away because they're isolating.

Indeed....

Many fans have moaned about the validity of this season with cancellations, postponements and makeshift teams. The gates have been fully opened to fans when COVID cases are very high again....Many are cautious and stay away still.

and yet when the fans don't return to normal numbers immediately, it's apparently the death of the game

There's every chance some fans have written this season off and they could easily be back in good numbers next season.

Aye that's a good comparison, presumably all the fans must be lorry drivers then

Or perhaps they bought extra groceries because they're going to be isolating for 2 weeks

You're right but, its Rugby League that they're isolating from, not covid.

Rugby League fans are tight arses, season ticket sales will have been down at all clubs and as play off crowds shown historically if they have to pay for anything outside of the season ticket they generally don't, especially if its on TV anyway.

I agree next season is key, restrictions permitting, and if its pretty much a season ticket gets you into the ground for the full season then I imagine crowds will improve

Attending games on a regular basis is a habit .........covid has broken that habit and if your assuming folk will return to their pre covid routines in 2022, you're in for a bit of a shock.

9,200 on today against Leigh with about 400 Leigh fans. It’s still short of a normal crowd but it was a good step in the right direction.

The second world war war broke the habit years ago, but post war crowds were bigger than ever - Once it was all over and people felt safe they flocked to rugby and soccer because they had the freedom, the danger was over, and they wanted to get out of the house.

1948 season Wire.v.Wigan 34,000 crowd, 1947 Leeds,v,Bradford 40,000 these were just league games...........
