Magic weekend….neutrals : Sun Jul 10, 2022 5:15 pm
Just travelling back now after the mighty wire extended their winning record to 1 game.

Great weekend, great fun, great city as usual…..just need more neutrals there though. I know that’s an easy and obvious thing to say and emus hard to achieve with what I imagine is a tiny marketing budget but it must be the primary aim for next year.

Need to try advertising it. Very few people actually knew it was on. Give loads of free tickets to local schools, the 50% discount to Newcastle United season ticket holders etc. Have more stuff on around the ground/at half time etc (granted its down to nufc stopping half time pitch stuff). To put it on and expect people to come ain't going to happen

How much advertising for the World Cup was there?

Well there was a stall outside with all the trophies on, a bloke was also handing out fixture leaflets. That was it though. You’d kind of have to be actually at the match really to see this “marketing” though.

There was a big banner in Monument metro station and a few other billboards on the platforms but still far from enough.

Agree that getting more locals to attend needs to be a priority and hopefully IMG have some ideas. Every year I am up here at least one or two locals ask what game is on while I'm out and about in my shirt...if they found out what was on a few weeks on advance they might actually go!

They was a debate on Radio Humberside yesterday during half time about what is the end game for magic and what are the RFL trying to achieve with it.

Im not so sure but its clearly not gripping the attention of locals, they may be a few thousand that buy tickets but given the catchment area it really is minimal.

Which is a fair argument, but is enough done to make the locals aware of the event? A lot of people plan events weeks in advance, not just 3 days before when they lazily take a few players pics on the St James' pitch and say job done on the marketing.

If Union brought the Premiership to Hull would you attend if you only heard about it last minute?

Im sure I saw months ago they were planning on giving out free tickets in schools, but cant see that happened. Giving kids free tickets and getting them to pester their parents to go is one of the oldest marketing tricks going but even that seems beyond SL.

If union was on in my back garden I'd shut the curtains! :SLEEPY:

Giving free tickets in schools should deffo happen

But the main thing is it gets plenty of people in Newcastle talking about RL to rl fans in pubs etc

It will Take a while to get Newcastle folk turning up in many thousands especially when they don't support a team
