Are Wigan a dirty side : Fri Jul 29, 2022 5:27 am
Rugby League is the hardest game in the world and is an aggressive sport but sometimes a team can go to far and to me Wigan always play on the very edge. Last night for example they were playing a team already decimated by injury fielding three teenage debutants in a side averaging twenty three years old. Lachlan Coote was targeted from the start and finally has to leave the pitch for a failed HIA because a player deliberately leads with the elbow, an incident i am sure the offending player will be found guilty but in all honesty should have received a red card.
All teams do and should play hard, its a physical sport, but i do think the officials should crack down harder on culprits during a game.

Don't think they are as bad these days under Matty Peet, you only have grubby play from Singleton and Smithies, dont know if Isa has had a brain transplant but he no longer goes on a wrecking spree these days.

They have only had 1 yellow card in Superleague this season whilst the current yellow card average is 9 or 10, that would suggest they are the cleanest and most disciplined side in Superleague.

They are an aggressive side. Wigan teams at all levels are tought to play like that and at times it's gone beyond what's decent. The whole 'snapping the pole' stuff where they were tought to attack the standing legs of players who were held for example was unacceptable at any level. Morgan Smithies is a player I don't like due to his constant use of the head in tackles, but it's a far cry from the Maguire/Wane days.

Matty Peet however seems to be righting some of the wrongs of the Maguire/Wane era. He seems very decent and we've seen absolutely nothing of Willie Isa this season. Him not being a thug means he doesn't do anything in games at all, but he's one of a few who have fixed their issues under Peet. His treetment of Powell after his disgraceful challenge on Bennison was good to see too, clearly got told it wasn't acceptable.

I remember Stains attacking the standing legs of players who had just kicked and that was way before Maguire/Wane days.
And yet your lot are way above wigan with the penalties.
There are dirty players in all teams.

Definitely. Some of the stuff we did to Martin Offiah wasn't very nice. Different times those though.

Those were different times but the Maguire "snapping the pole" at well over a decade ago isn't. You do surprise me. Not.

Yes and as you have already pointed out it was different times than this year as we are pretty good on the penalty side unlike some.

Would like to point out that you was right to get rid of Bentley,he was one little grub.
