In last week's League Express there was a letter from me about how the mental health of players may suffer when they stop playing, of referees when they stop refereeing and many supporters as they grow old.
My suggestion on how to help stop or slow down this happening is to start writing a novel based generally on your own life, family and family history, work, home town and rugby league connections. Many people who I have said this to have said that it seemed a good idea but that they would just not know how to even start writing such a novel. For the benefit of such people, I have also written three pages of general advice. I am in a good position to do this because since starting writing as a hobby in 1988 when I was still working full time as an electrical draughtsman, I have now written half a million words in six novels in a series that runs between 1962 and 2008. If you would like me to send you these pages, then E Mail me at wgeofflee@gmail.com and ask for Geoff's RL Writing Notes. However you may prefer to read one of my novels first or give one as a Christmas present for someone who likes a good laugh. Visit London League Publications at http://www.llpshop.co.uk. Then click on Books and then on Fiction. My suggestion would be to buy the latest which is called "Three Good Years" and is set between 2006 and 2008 and has a background of Work, Family Life, Saving the NHS and Rugby League. |
