Actually (and with only gut feeling to go off here, not hard facts) I think that's a pretty creditable attendance given it's a pre-season friendly. I reckon that might be one of the best attendances for a pre-season friendly we've had recently but, as ever, I stand to be corrected!

Creditable? Leigh at the opening friendly at the LSV when we played them got over 4,000. And were meant to be the super leauge club...

Has any other pre-season friendly been supposedly pushed as the historic new game at our fantastic new stadium?

Well, I did say that I stood to be corrected but I was talking about a comparison with a pre-season home friendly fixture in recent times and ex-Salf Uni seems to get what I meant here. Indeed if his suggestion that it's nearly double what we would have got at the Willows then the historic 1st game at the shiny new stadium marketing angle worked then didn't it?

Did we ever pull in more than 1500 for a friendly at the willows in recent years? As for it being pushed as the historic first game at our new stadium, who knew about it outside of our core support? People are still asking on twitter and the likes who the stadium is for next to Barton Bridge.

4,714 to be exact, although I think that was the first time the LSV had opened it's doors rather than there being an event beforehand like there was for SCS?

We made a right mess of the move in a similar way to yourselves as 2008 was a pretty poor season and we had a bad defeat in the final game (Greg McNally scoring the last time, ironically enough) at Hilton Park before having a dreadful first season at the LSV where we would have been relegated had Gateshead not imploded.

I think the real key to your attendances will be how many season ticket holders you get and presumably a boost in away support to visit for the first time etc, but if there isn't a big push for the first home league game at the very least then you've got to wonder when it will happen?

Hmm. That's a definite case of "lies, damned lies and statistics" to my mind.

That's why I said "supposedly pushed" and it proves my point.

Yeah I agree. Wilkys programme notes were slightly worrying:

"We need your backing to help us achieve a viable situation here at Salford City Stadium."

Charging £10 for kids (league games) is unlikely to get the families flocking in.

Looking again at what I said about the marketing angle working, I really should have added one of these:
