also an idea from South Africa have the seats four different shades of Red next to each other, on TV it looks like the stadium is full until you go really close up. :ROCKS:

this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

Re: New Stadium Site Update Thread!!! : Fri Jun 25, 2010 9:44 am
Received a letter this morning from UrbanVision outlining a planning application for a 20,000 seater stadium, the letter is virtually the same as the ones I've always been sent going back to 2003, (I have copies of them all) the only major omission is that it doesn't have the casino app included which we knew about anyway.

Spoke to KOTS and he assures me its OK but a little confusing to say the least!
perhaps the designer is colour blind.
:NAUGHTY: , I believe the politically correct way to describe this condition is Colour Vision Deficiency (as some self-righteous tw@ decided to tell me the other week  ).

There needs to be some standing down the side of the pitch for mine like at the HJ. It's just not the same watching behind the sticks IMO.

being a behind the sticks dweller I don't mind the standing there, at least you can see all the action on the park and not lose out on the corners near to your side because of fans standing, I am now writing this confused, and forgot what I was going to point out.

I started watching salford in the northstand ( i was The Northstandender at that point on here many moons ago) and behind the post for me does have its advantages
You can see the gaps in the defensive line better its a better view usually and psycologically for the players point of you i imagine if your support are situated behind the post they can help suck the ball over the line at times

Dont get me wrong being smack bang in the middle on the side does have its advantages when kicking off, when players walking on and off, forward passes but i do feel sometimes when we attack the club end in particualar if we moved the shed behind the goals we would get more success

Looks a nice stadium design.

Good to see you actually have some formal achitect drawings rather than just CG images, which are nothing more than fluff in the grand scheme of things. Architect drawings are an indication this is a serious proposal. Not a mere fairy tale.

However i would caution against getting over excited re timescales.

Yes there are diggers moving mud. However you have to get all the planning sorted before anything can get built, and there is a lot of work to be done before that happens.

For example Saints new stadium had site clearence work done 12 months ago, yet stadium work still hasnt started yet.

I personally suspect it will probably be next spring or summer before you see any structure going up.

The plans also show that many of the facilities in the main stand are too be shared. Im particularly puzzled by notes saying "joint venture offices". Do you know who with though?

The main stand has one massive lounge on level 2 it goes the full length of the stand. Should be a good place for a pre and post match drink. Ideally the club will then be able to make going the match a big event with pre match meal then post match cabaret.

I also note though that the development is being built in phases. I think phase 3 is what is ultimately aimed to get built, but the reality is that you are likely to move into the stadium when only phase one has been built. Phase 3 is if Salford start pulling in 10k gates.
From the look of phase one you get a nice main stand, then a few rows of terracing behind both goals, you can get the idea of the size of this terrace by the fact there are only 2 rows of crash barriers. I suspect each terrace will probably only hold approximately 1500 people.
Similarly opposite the main stand are a few rows of seats, there are between 8 and 10 rows of seats in this stand, dependant on the location of disabled facilities. There are approximately 222 columns of seats. This gives this seated stand a capacity of approximately 2220.
The main stand has around 25 rows of seats So i suspect a capacity of approximately 5500 in this stand will be the order of the day.

This pic shows what you will be getting in phase 1

http://iclipseweb.salford.gov.uk/AniteP ... 520561.pdf

Phase three of the development shows futher seating being put in along the touchline and also seating being built on the back of the terracing behind the goals. Similar infact to how Old Trafford used to look before it went all seater. Or how is the case at present behind one goal at Salford.

Re: New Stadium Site Update Thread!!! : Sat Jun 26, 2010 5:54 am
7.0 URBAN DESIGN FRAMEWORK
7.1 Form and response to context
The site of the new City of Salford Stadium occupies a
hugely prominent position, bounded by the M60 Barton
Bridge, the Manchester Ship Canal and the A57 and
demands a distinctive, eye catching building as its
centrepiece. There is little in the way of traditional urban
grain around the site – instead the building has to exploit
the new approaches and the existing views into the site.
The approach for public transport and cars will be from
the A57, on the entrance road that crosses the brook, and
gradually rises up to the stadium. The West Stand has
been orientated to face this approach as well as creating a
strong axis from the proposed future WGIS proposals.
As the West Stand faces the access route into the site, it
also provides accommodation for all non-stadium uses,
and seating for the largest number of spectators. Due to
this it has the greatest prominence of all the stands and
has been designed as a stand alone pavilion set within its
landscaped surroundings.
A horseshoe of stands completes the stadium bowl to the
North, East and South, which sits as a recessive element in
all phases, grounded back into the landscape of the site.
Phase 1 refl ects the desire to form a development within
a landscape the most, with the subsequent phases
designed to maintain Phase 1 and extend. Mounds of
the remediated earth will be formed to create this bowl,
the terracing sitting on these as at the Salford City Red’s
current ground. Simple small scale accommodation
blocks to the rear enclose the stands with a roof line
relating to the landscape behind, helping to bed the
horseshoe into the site and increase the prominence of the
main stand.
Phases 2 and 3 offer extensions to this horseshoe by
means of an upper tier, which will lie below the mass of the
main stand and rise above the landscape lower tier.
Alongside the main stadium development sits a small
community changing building, materials and form of
which, relating back to the main stand.
7.2 Context and Mix
The stadium provides a mixed-use development,
predominantly for the community, comprising:
accommodation for Salford Reds, a private concession,
community accommodation and hospitality and exhibition
areas.
These facilities have been integrated into the West Stand,
complimenting each other and ensuring a dynamic
environment that will operate every day of the year – not
just on match days.
The stadium, upon completion, provides spaces for 20,000
spectators, together with associated hospitality lounges,
kiosks and bars.
All other accommodation is accessed through one main
entrance, therefore providing a relationship between the
different uses and a lively area for community and private
users to mix.
7.3 Scale and Massing
Based on the accommodation required, including a
stadium, hospitality and community functions and the
desire for a building which operates all year round, the
main West Stand stands taller than any other building on
the site. This building has been designed to represent a
pavilion sat within the extensive parkland and landscaping.
Rising above the horseshoe stands, the terracing is clearly
visible and will provide a lively view into the stadium from
the elevated Barton Bridge, especially on match days.
On the North, South and East elevations, the landscaped
mounds form the rear of these stands, a ‘green’ roof
extending the site past the building, into the stadium itself.
7.4 Building Design
7.4.1 The Bowl
The stadium bowl has been designed to maximise
spectator comfort and atmosphere, with sightlines that are
well above average.
20,000 spectators can be accommodated in the
completed stadium, including 5600 standing spectators.
The Main Stand accommodates 4,500 seated spectators,
including seating for hospitality and a continuous ‘superriser’
to separate the hospitality areas. A smaller upper tier
provided seating for hospitality boxes elevated above the
rest of the stand.
Standing spaces are situated to the North and South
Stand, relating to the existing standing areas at the Willows
Stadium. Access to the lower Horseshoe terraces is via a
continuous concourse elevated to the rear of the lower tier.
This concourse provides the accommodation for the upper
tier.
Sightlines ‘C’ valued are a minimum of 90, and will be
beyond that, up to 120, in many parts of the stadium,
giving excellent viewing of the pitch, above that of most
Rugby League stadiums in the country.
7.4.2 The Roof
The roof of the Main Stand has been developed to
emphasise the buildings height and importance. The
stand is opened up by the height of the roof, which helps
to provide an overall canopy to the West Stand.
The horseshoe roof Phase 1 has been designed to help
ground the stands into the landscape, the cladding
running out from the rear of the stand and the landscaped
mounds built up behind.

Working at 7:15 this morning heading into the office, very impressive must be some early completion bonus they are on.

As i'm not involved in the building or design trade I have no clue but the scematic plans someone has posted above are they the finished article? find it odd that someone would go that far if it wasnt all done and dusted on the drawingboard.

I think this has been mentioned before on a previous thread but look at this stadium that Leicester Tigers are having built.

http://www.leicestertigers.com/redevelopment/virtual.php

It's iconic, eye catching yet a simple design. Cant the club look at something similar to this but on a smaller scale? It would Just give it that unique'ness
