We get a new stadium actually started and yet people still find something to moan about.
The club are skint, there is a global recession, the pound is at a all time low, building at other projects has been shelved and still somehow the club manage to get this off the ground.
I always thought a stadium similar to Leigh or Widnes would suit us and I see nothing wrong with these.
The options are we stay at the Willows and play in the championship.
And people say I whige

Spot on PR.

Except the 'whige' bit ;)

Sorry if I offend anybody, but it's shocking imo. After so much expectation we're ending up with a Subbuteo stadium. Far from distinctive and representative of a city that should be setting themselves above the rest.
Fully appreciate the difficulties in meeting the demands of the original design but all the same, I personally hate settling for 2nd best.
This stadium oozes of 'bargain basement stadia' / 'rushed job in order to keep the RFL happy'

Not expecting anyone to agree with me but hey, there it is!

RP From the drawings that I have seen the stadium is a long way from being a "bargain basement"/rushed job.

The fact that there will be training pitches etc on site will in my opinion make a fantastic sight from whichever way you look at it and although different from the original design it will still be an eye catching stadium.

Harking back to what might have been we cannot have what we cannot afford and I think that the club, the directors in particular should be congratulated along with the council and Peel.

Re: New Stadium Site Update Thread!!! : Wed May 19, 2010 8:33 am
I stated on a similar thread that I thought we would end up with a breeze block stadium ala Haliwell Jones. Thats what you get when you go down the design and build route. But its great that we actually have something now, and I hope that the build carries on without any hitches.

Like people have said though, I am also worried about how the financial side of things will work. If we are just renting the stadium, and all ticket sales, car park, retail etc goes to the joint venture company to pay off the stadium. Can that be allocated to our salary cap?

Also if we are not receiving the revenue streams above, where do we make our money? If we recieve less income, and have to pay rent to play in the stadium, is it possible that our finances will be worse than they are now playing at the Willows?

This isnt a whinge this is just genuine concerns. May be worth getting someone in the know to the next Forever Reds meeting so they can be asked these questions directly.

I have a few issues with it apart from it being a bit of a let down on the design downgrade:
It is stated that it will be a £26m stadium yet its clearly a £12m-£15m design.
Looking at other stadia such as City of Manchester (also a AFL project) which is a £20m 48'000 capacity developement, ours is a rip-off! or how about Preston North End having a £7.1m 22,250 capacity very similar looking yet bigger stadium than us.

Also, the retail area will be used to pay off the loan? Who would want to visit our stadium to shop when just over the road there is The Traffold Centre!!?

And yes the choice is between 'New Stadium' or 'No Stadium' but come on, it seems like Peel have bent us over on this one!

Why from what I have seen it looks fine
It is stated that it will be a £26m stadium yet its clearly a £12m-£15m design.

Have you actually seen the cost of build nowadays, materials have shot up in price along with all the planning and infastructure that goes with it.
Looking at other stadia such as City of Manchester (also a AFL project) which is a £20m 48'000 capacity developement, ours is a rip-off!

This was built for the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and then changed into a football stadium. I would be interested to see how much it would cost in todays climate,8 years is a long time in financial terms.
or how about Preston North End having a £7.1m 22,250 capacity very similar looking yet bigger stadium than us.

This stadium has been on going for about the past 20 years. They have basically updated the old stadium which was already there, same as what Blackpool have done. Salford are starting from scratch. Also everyone laughed when it was stated we would have a 20k stadium I much prefer the 15k number
Also, the retail area will be used to pay off the loan? Who would want to visit our stadium to shop when just over the road there is The Traffold Centre!!?

I would hope there would be restaurants there and other outlets not already in the vicinity, difficult I know with the Trafford centre across the way.Maybe there will be another Tesco
And yes the choice is between 'New Stadium' or 'No Stadium' but come on, it seems like Peel have bent us over on this one!

Without Peel it would not have happened, I would have rather that we were not tied in with them but that is the way it is unfortunately.
