For me Weaste is the place I was born/raised/grew up in, however in life people move to different places, I currently reside in Swinetown it's where I live but it's not home just like Barton isn't. I think that question would be better directed at councillors that served between the 1950's and 1970's. What do you mean by stay? Some of us have never lived in what you consider the real Salford despite previous generations living there.
