I must caution you Salford fans on the timescales so far stated.
All the Mps are on holiday at present and so Mr Pickles wont get off his fat booty and do anything until he gets back off his MP Jolies after 6th September.
He will probably have a lot on his plate (not food), with a backlog of work from throughout the summer recess, unfortunately he wont get much done then, because the MPs go into the conference season on the 16th September until 11th October.
I therefore think a decision from the Government to approve the plans wont happen until the end of October or November.
Once thats done, Peel and the council will need to go through the tendering process.
As Government/council money is involved, this needs to follow strict procedures, that follow European Union rules regarding competition and fair trade.
This can all take time and grind the tender process into the ground. For example Saints new stadium was approved in 2008 by the Government but tenders only got formerly signed off last month.
I hope for your sake that Peel are more professional and better organised at going through the tender process than Langtree or there agents appeared to be. I suspect they will be, as they are a far bigger organisation.
I think the timescales for the stadium opening for the start of 2012 season are optimistic, as i personally dont think you will see stadium construction start till next summer at the earliest. Thats basing things on Peel being really professional and organised at processing the tenders.
However i will say that the phase 1 development is a pretty basic stadium construction, so it may be possible to knock it up in 8 or 9 months, for example Warringtons ground only took 9 months to build. Hence if work starts by next May then you may be in for the start of 2012.
Otherwise i think 2013 is more realistic.
