Post some comments in support of the council on there, we need a professional rugby leage club in the city and the amount we bring in in sports tourism dwarves the £350k loan (which no doubt the council are probably making a bit of money on to take account of the higher risk that the club is over and above the council itself as an investment vehicle.

"Sports tourism" just what the hell is that all about.A guided tour of the Willows incorporating their trophy room.!
Fact is it is a disgrace that the local council has bailed out a professional organisation with tax payers money at a time when people working for the council are to loose jobs. After all I thought that was what shareholders were supposed to do whenn a company was short on cash flow.

Now i know it has been dressed up as a loan but someone hasn't looked at the risk factors affecting the loan of public funds on the back of selling land in a market that is seeing land and property prices rightly dropping.

Try telling anyone who has or will be made redundant that sports tourism covers the cost.!!

Now that's funny, Swinton fans have be bemoaning the Council for years for not helping/bailing them out when things went wrong, and now the Council are doing that but not for Swinton then that's wrong, so if they'd have done this 20 years ago for the Swinton it wouldn't have been a problem

Oh and, thanks for your council tax! :thumb:

First accept sadness. Realise that without losing 70% of the time, winning wouldn't be such a relief.

Re: Salford Council : Thu Feb 03, 2011 9:09 am
I sympathise with anybody losing their job due to the recent government spending cuts but you have to look at the broader picture. The role of a professional sports club in a City goes far and beyond just sports tourism and employment. I just don’t think some Salfordians are aware of the time, scale and investment that goes into the clubs community program.

The Salford City Reds Foundation team isn’t just one or two individuals teaching a few kids how to play rugby, it’s a comprehensively skilled team that provide excellent services to the Salford public. Here are just a few examples:-

1. The Tackle Health Program -Working alongside Salford NHS to help improve the health of the city’s residents by visiting schools, businesses and community groups every month.

2. Respect – Tackle It Campaign – Actively promoting the following:-
• Discourage all instances of unsporting behavior, foul or illegal play, or acts of violence, both on and off the field.
• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their age, ethnic origin, gender, special needs, including learning and physical disabilities, class or social background, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, colour or political persuasion.
• Condemn the use of recreational and performance enhancing drugs and doping practices their use endangers the health of players and is contrary to the concept of fair play.

3. First Aid Training Courses – The foundation offers a number of courses including the ½ day Basic Lifesaver course, the 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course, the 3 day First Aid at Work course and various refresher courses.

4. Red Devils Learning Zone - Salford City Reds Foundation provide a pitch side classroom at the Willows, which has developed from a partnership with the club and Salford Council’s Children’s Services. The facility exists for schools and community groups to have access to a range of courses including literacy/ numeracy for schools, NVQs, unemployment courses, healthy lifestyle courses and much more.

Fortunately some people are aware of the value of Salford City Reds in the local community and fully support the club. By contrast 'those who it suits' would rather ignore the excellent work they do in the community for political or personal reasons.

Listen pal no mater how much you whinge about it being tax payers money, you've got to realise that Salford RLFC are the city's only proffesional club and also the citys only elite league club, the reds mean alot to thousands of salford people, if we were to go could you imagine the amount of company's losing profit like the shops pubs catering company's around the area who cash in big time on match days.

Tbh who ever these guys are moaning about the stadium well read very carefully, IT IS BEING BUILT END OF STORY DEAL WITH IT!

is it also terrible that the council supports the Lowry to the tune of £1m a year which is not a loan, but covers the shortfall in ticket revenue and rentals from the Outlet centre, which should now be coming on stream proper with the opening of Media City, something else that was kickstarted by £20m from Salford council.
For all we know the council maybe thinking about helping Swinton out, out of the town that is
Council putting some money into Swinton, IN Salford on back of the Swinton shirts.

M.E.N. always first with the news

Buddy Holly's been killed in a plane crash.

Since September 2007 the BBC Philharmonic has been in a major partnership with Salford City Council enabling the Orchestra to build active links with Salford and its communities.

This culminated with a 20 million grant to secure their move to Salford Quays

Where MEN's full page Shellacking over that I ask

Seems supporting a poncy orchestra owned by a billon's turnover enterprise is not not worthy of comment . but supporting the cities only fully professional sports club & the erection of the first new sporting venue in 80 odd years in the city is to be investigated .. by who the Garrido's?
