I'm afraid why a few nutters (like myself) from the north love rugby league is a mystery to the the majority of the UK. We have been trying to exist/expand since 1875 and it does seem an uphill battle. Our custodians of the game ,have got a bit of a job. Anyone who puts their hand up to run a club deserves a medal. If the right man is out there, to move our sport forward, may we see him now and good luck to him.
Not quite - RL was thriving in the 1950s. 40k+ attendances for the Lancashire Cup, 100K+ for Challenge Cups. Take 1951 for example. 31 teams in the league with Cardiff and Liverpool represented. Times were different then but it wasn't a struggle to exist.
SL started off well full of hope and optimism. We had 4 big teams that shared out the honours, some top players on show, bags of money from Sky, a dedicated RL show then it sort of dwindled in quality from about 2007 onwards and is currently in it's death throes as Batley talk about pies and peas and we make videos of Myler's shoulder pads.
If I had no affiliation to Warrington or the NW I wouldn't be watching.
