If it's the leaders in the group not pulling their weight then there is no other option but to drop them. DP must know who they are, the guy comes across as intelligent.

But what if it's half a dozen starters? Dropping them sounds like a good thing to do but it's a nuclear option that could backfire. We don't have the squad depth for that.

He'll definitely know who they are but is probably thinking of the long game. Trying to be competitive this season and then making big changes once it's done.

That being said, if we keep losing, the nuclear option becomes more tempting.

Just out of interest, could we take a look at which players who've been around a few years have actually changed their game in response to different coaching? I'm far from an expert, but my observation of the old guard over the last few years tells me:
Ratchford: naa, not really, just slightly slower and less elusive than he was
Charnley: yes, amazingly - Price had him as first receiver on our own line trying to be a prop, but he's changed fairly radically into a properish winger since the beginning of the season
J. Clark: zero change
Jack Hughes: zero change
D. Clark: zero real change, still dangerous on the scoot but well off his best
Currie: zero real change
M. Davis: zero real change
Hmmm.
If you coach someone in business and they don't respond it's either because they 1) don't want to or 2) aren't capable of altering the way they do things. If the above list don't want to change, do they belong in the team? If they get on the field, panic and forget everything they've agreed to try out, do they belong in Superleague? Or am I talking rubbish and have missed a load of subtleties in the way they play?

1) Identify the ring leaders.
2) Interview them on a one to one basis and ask then if they want to stay at Warrington RLFC
3) Inform them that the decision to stay at Wire isn`t necessarily theirs, but depends on Daryl Powell`s views on how they fit into his
plans.
4).See if any players adapt to the new game style, for 2 more games maximum.
5) If there is no perceived difference, then loan out the worse offender to a Championship Club indefinitely & drop one of the others for
one game.
6) I anticipate that all the remaining players will then fall into line.
7) Before Stage 1) sign a bruising prop forward fron the NRL

Jack Hughes is the Captain and still plays every week. That's all we really need to know.

When have you ever seen him behind the sticks demanding more from his players? When have you ever seen him demand the ball and run over the top of someone when we start to look lethargic and flat? Never.

I've been saying it for years since Morley, Carvell & Co. moved on. We're too nice! We don't have anyone in our pack with a bit of grunt about them.

The sad thing is in Hughes' absense of Captain abilities, not one member of our forwards stepped up in that time has stepped up in a game and said "Give me the f***ing ball now. Follow me lads, I'll show you the way."

Too much complacency in our pack. We've got players up front who know they can do whatever they want and it doesn't matter because they'll still get picked every week.

How can we really expect any more from the team when the quality of the squad has dwindled steadily since the last days of Smith? We couldn' win the big one even in the days of Morley ,when we actually used to play as a team. Move forward to now & we have a team not much better than reserve standard as do other clubs in the division.

I think the standard of all sides has dropped. I would expect our team of 2011/12 transplanted into the 2022 competition would beat all before it.

Winning SL is not unattainable by any means. Our peers have done it many, many times. Decent performance during the season winning 23+/28 games, win playoff round1 at home, then the ability to beat 2 from 3 of Saints/Wigan/Leeds in successive games. :-)

In fairness Cooper does try the old ‘give me the bloody ball’ thing, he certainly gave it a go in the Wakefield league game. For me he was a shoo-in for Captain, still baffled why he’s never been considered but I don’t see the inner workings. He is, however, a leader in what he does on field, very articulate and Warrington born.

Wow! Well I have gone and done it. I sat through and watched the whole game. A horrible start to the game, they took advantage and we never recovered. We could easily have lost by more as HKR ran us ragged most of the time with Matt Parcell running the show. I haven't seen us so outplayed for years. Horrible defence around the play the ball.
Couple of their tries at the start of second half could easily have been called for forward passes.
Our best ... probably Bullock & Mata'utia.

Hard to watch but had to be done.
