[quote="sally cinnamon"]Inglis' arrival causes literally no problem in picking the side.
A problem is what happens when you are stacked with talent at a position and worried that you're going to put someone's nose out of joint and make them want to move on. None of those names that are going to miss out are irreplaceable. If Inglis had joined when Tony Smith was here, I'm sure TS would have been ruthless enough to put him in ahead of Rhys Evans and not stressed about trying to find him a place. I can see where you are coming from, but if you put Inglis into the second row you have to tell Currie or Hughes that they are stepping back, and whilst neither of those players are outstanding they would certainly walk straight into most SL teams. Worse still, they would see inferior players like Akauola / Latu / Davis etc albeit in a different position, getting regular game time. With the current issue of players taking a pay cut whilst the club still brings in big name signings, that's not going to help much with squad morale.
If you are a coach you have a single focus; winning SL. But the CEO will be focussed on winning and ensuring the club is financially healthy. That is why I think this is not simply an opportunity to bring in a better player to strengthen our team, its also about signing a world class player with a big reputation that hits the news, excites the fans and advertisers and sponsors alike. If it had been a prop it would have been a perfect signing and ticked both boxes.
