I thought I was a Sandow truther but seems like there are more hardcore Sandowers on here than me.
He was really good in about 10 games. He had a bag of tricks and weapons that could break a defence and in todays game which is very formulaic someone like that is a match-winner. But the spell of games where he was like that was only about 10 games.
He was not as complete a player as Davies, Briers or Johns. They all passed the ball better could organise a team better and had greater variety to their kicking game. He was closer in style to Langer in terms of being a bag of tricks close to the opposition line but Langer's tricks were more consistently dangerous.
If you want comparisons to Sandow with players from the past, Graham Appo and Richard Henare (although different types of players) are more appropriate - both had a little golden spell where they were unplayable but otherwise not that effective.
