There's been a lot of talk about the amount of money available to Warrington - are we far and away the richest club in rugby league or is this just an exaggeration?

I would have guessed our budget is similar to Leeds, Wigan and so on.

Wouldn't be surprised if its bigger than Cas, Salford, Wakefield so fair play to them for doing well.

But where has all this money that we have come from? We don't get the biggest attendances, do we have the best sponsorship or corporate investment? Are there any figures out there that show who is the richest club in rugby league?

We know we operate at full cap and do have funds for transfers. So this shows to me we don't have a financial obstacle which we used to have.

In terms of home attendance I think we are the 5th largest after Leeds, Wigan, Saints, Hull but gate receipts are a much reduced percentage of income with the inclusion of television rights income.

How do we define richest club? Strongest balance sheet or the wealth of the share holders coupled with their largesse?

I didn't say we were "far and away the richest club". I said we were well resourced and shouldn't be accepting this mediocrity. Do you disagree with that statement?

We have wealthy backers and strong support and for rugby league, a reasonable set of sponsorship. I think it's fair to say - we should be doing better than 9th and suffering 40-0 thrashings.

Not sure. Saints are not very patient, just ask KC, yet must have swelled coffers from their 7 GF appearances and 5 wins.

I'm not sure anyone can disagree - surely? Obviously Leeds had a blip last season but the cause can be attributed to a valid reason. We don't have a valid reason.

You have to rate wealth not by a rich owner handout or loan, buy by turnover.
Leeds are far clear of anyone, Wire second ahead of Wigan who just about break even as of recent years.

Re: Smith Out : Wed May 31, 2017 10:29 am
The richest club has to be decided by how successful the club is on the pitch (my opinion) and we have not been as successful as our contemporaries in my time as a spectator. I started in 1974.

It will add insult to injury if Cas or Salford are successful at OT this season, not because they won't deserve it, but because they will have done it before the Wire and I find that unacceptable given our resources.

You don't equate sporting wealth with profit margins. A good club on the field should only just break even, because it should be ploughing it all back into squads and development. It's not a business to make profits in.
