People are assuming that Penny has been dropped, but I honestly think he wouldn't have played vs Saints if Gleeson had been fit.

ridiculous scary centres, though i'd like to think that fakir is a target for gleeson's footwork.

i think its right that penny is dropped. as much as i want him to succeed the only time he will do anything is if he has open space ahead of him. its been said before, but he does concede more tries than he scores.

penny cant defend well enough. i think with Johnson there kings defence will improve.

if i were king, i would feel playing with penny that you would have to defend the winger as well as the centre, but if johno goes there, there will be no doubt in my mind that he would be strong defensively, so king can concentrate on his own centre.

Agreed, after all the tripe is cut away, there is only one question that needs to be asked imo, that is "would we feel more comfortable with Johnson defending or Penny? Unfortunately for Kev i think the answer would be Johnson. If you look at where Kev stands in the defensive line he is not close enough to his centre, this disrupts the sliding defence on the left, therefore when King and the rest of the team slide to the left as the ball is put through the oppositions hands Kev has to move right in order to close the gap and get into the correct defensive position, this automatically puts him on the back foot, then he slides left with the rest of the team but it's too late by then.

Penny needs to be treated very carefully if he is to fulfil his potential. I think he needs 1st team rugby at the Co-Op Championship level to learn his trade. This will give him experience he so needs and take the pressure off him a bit.

My position on Penny is that he has got a lot of potential that at the moment isn't coming through at super league level. As somebody in this thread suggested, and myself elsewhere I think it could be a good idea to send him on loan to a strong team in nl1 where he could learn the game at a lower level. That said he has been made a scapegoat from last week.
Looking at the squad list and the way its listed I'd be worried at our left side with King centre and Johnson on the wing, no pace what so ever and I also don't want to see Bridge there as I think he is wasted on the wing.

Riley
Hicks
Gleeson(hopefully)
Bridge
King
Briers
Monaghan.

Thats what I'd go with although I'd prefer to see Bridge covering the halfs. Maybe Reardon to come in left wing when fit?

The older I get - the better I was

Penny or Johnson on the wing isn't exactly an embarrassment of riches is it?
one isn't fast, one isn't a SL std rugby player.

King might have been woeful so far - 25 games.

But he must be better than he looks.
A SOO hat-trick can't be wrong can it?
