did you ever look at Tom Briscoes try on Friday just gone and See Riley rush out and go high on Briscoe and get brushed off Easily resulting in Briscoe scoring in the corner...and think anything ?????
or have we all moved on from picking out wingers defensive errors now John Clarkes back in the side.....
I thought it was a good finish. Where have i ever been on the JC bashing brigade ?
All Penny offers is in attack and all he offers is blistering pace. I've seen Riley being creative a hell of a lot more than KP, besides i'm not a KP basher either i want him to stay, all i'm saying is given the choice between havilg Riles and KP i'd pick Riles
Imagine if penny had played last week and made the attempted tackle that riley did that led to Hull's first try. There would have been a 6 page thread saying how crap he is at tackling. I believe the only reason smith isn't persevering with him is the salary he is probably on.
ahh you beat me to it but thank you....
the Salary is almost certainly exactly the main reason. (Maybe Penny did turn into a bit of a Johnny Big Time I dont know, I dont know the lad but I didnt get to hear any rumours to back that up)
But If it means Smith can sign Hodgson And the lad from the reserves Rhys Williams for the equivalent of Pennys Salary then its a no brainer for a coach, two for one thank you very much.
No he's just not Smiths type of player he could of played a few times this season but he played Rhys Williams instead also Rhys was given a new contract this season.
Yes, but it was pretty clear that penny would be moving on and that williams would be here for the next couple of seasons at least. Therefore i would imagine smith saw the benefit of giving williams some 1st team experience. Nobody will convince me that his salary is not a factor in his moving on. Also, didn't smith pick him in a GB training squad?

Biscuit I too was always in the pro-Penny camp but I think you have to respect Smith's decision here, look at his track record, he isn't a coach who discards young talent without a reason. Lee Smith, Ryan Hall, Ashley Gibson, Danny Williams, all these outside backs got their chance under Smith at Leeds, some did better than others, but at a big club like that he could have signed high profile players but he gave lads a chance just like he's given Riley a chance. He has obviously judged Penny as not good enough for the Wire time, time will tell whether that was the right call or not. I would rather Penny was playing first team rugby somewhere else, than everybody always wondering if he was good enough or not, as a squad player at Wire. I hope he goes well.
yeah that's fair enough, you missed off Calderwood though, as Smith "let him go" when he wanted an improved new contract when he was at the top of his game, and to be fair Smith got that right by replacing him with Scott donald.
Calderwood turned to absolute poop after that I just hope Penny doesnt go the same way.
The problem for Kev for me is that all the qualities he had that made him shine, we now have anyway, as they are a given under Smith. I used to love his enthusiasm, his desire, his passion, his pace. Without all that, you're just left with deficiencies.
At Wakefield, he'll be a breath of fresh air. Their fans will adore him, he'll chase everything, catch tonnes, miss some, clap, beat his chest, run very, very fast. He's all action, good & bad and it'll be great for Kear to stand back and say to the rest of them "look, this is what I want", he might not do everything right, but he'll do everything with everything he's got.
It makes Wakefield watchable again on TV anyhow, thank god.
It's upto Kev to shine now, and shine like a beacon. I hope he proves everyone wrong, like an Atkins who now makes Bradford's decision to let him go look ridiculous. There's plenty kicking around in SL, look at Jodie Broughton, not good enough for Leeds, he's made a good career move for him and his stock has risen, Penny should look at the likes of him and see that you can bounce back.
He had a great loan spell at Quins, scored a few trys, made a few try saving tackles and caught quite a lot of high balls aswell. Think he'll go well at Wakey next year and I doubt that their fans will get on his back as much as our fans did.
Rhys evans is fast and will probably score loads of exciting tries when he breaks into the first team. So if wire fans want to be consistent then he will have to be made the scapegoat if we have a dip in form.
