I didn't see the game today, but after watching Bulls-Saints (Bradford were robbed...) and seeing the other scores, I have to say it is a chance missed to put some daylight between Wire and the chasers.
My thoughts are that Salford had a relatively young side out, and with Warrington winning a large number of games by easy margins, should Tony S not have played a few more of the reserve grade/academy today?? Clearly the forwards (in particular) would have been tired, and i think that giving some of the reserves their chance at a first team spot may have paid dividends, as (and no disrespect here...) it was only Salford.
Still... Smith is an extremely knowledgable coach, and he felt he needed to go with a number of guys backing up from friday. I just feel that it was a great chance missed to consolidate top spot.
As a Salford fan i have to say (and it pains me to say it) but Warrington are a class side and you lot are looking good to win the double this year but i dont think you can just blame yesterdays result because of friday game with England.Smith wouldnt have played players if he didnt think they were up for it and you cant say having two games in two days would made the players tired as its just like the easter period playing two games in two days. Thanks for the messages on our board and hope you do us a favour at the weekend
Anyone who doesn't think Friday's game is one of the reasons we lost is completely wrong IMO. There's some stato's on here, can someone tell me the last round in SL where the top 4 teams in SL all failed to win? I don't know but I would hazard a guess it's a good while ago! (if at all!) Salford deserved the win by doing the basics. Keeping hold of the ball and one out rugby with a good kick to complete the set which will always see you do well in such poor conditions. How a Salford player was not put in the bin for persistent holding down and interference is beyond me though... I'm not too concerned, you won't win every game, if anything this will put our feet back on the ground. Briers had a stinker, Monas just wasn't firing, Hodgson also seemed a little fatigued and wasn't positioned for the 2nd phase play we normally use. But on the plus side I thought Myler had a good game and I liked the way he tried to take the game to Salford when the team was struggling. Extremely vocal in trying to organise the left edge attack too which has been one of my criticisms of his in the past. Big mention to Gaz again as well, superb! Never mind, review the video and get back on the horse at KR.

Well, if Saints players are anything to go by, backing up wasn't a reason for your loss. The Saints players who backed up had good games, albeit while playing entirely the wrong style of rugby for the conditions, whereas the guys left behind plus Perry who'd even had a week off (banned), were all very poor bar Makinson, our substitute winger. Wilkin was outstanding for us and he worked hard on Friday night too. So I really don't think backing up was the problem yesterday, for any team. If Saints players can back up well then so can those in the teams above us in the league IMO.
Friday might be different. As with the Easter programme, it is often the game in the following week when the tiredness can kick in.
I'd agree to an extent, our best 3 IMO was Myler Carvell & Westwood... Our worst performer was Briers, had a stinker. The thing is with Briers, form is temporary, class is permanent. He'll be back next week I reckon. When I say I think Friday is to blame is because of the preparation for the game. Salford had the full squad working on a game plan for yesterday, we only had half a squad and boy did it show. We looked out of sorts and lacking ideas which isn't the norm for the past 6 weeks. As I said, Wire, Hudds, the pies & Saints all failing to win on one weekend is too much of coincidence when these teams made up the majority of the two squads. Only Leeds went against the grain this weekend, but HKR beat themselves by the sounds of it (which hardly surprises me).
How can people say that Friday had nothing to do with this game is beyond me. 7 of our starting 13 played a tough game less than 2 days ago and not involved in warringtons preperation. Heavy conditions makes it more energy sapping. None of the top 4 that provided the huge majority of the england exiles game won. I was worried all week that we'd struggle, Salford given the circumstances must have fancied this one. Fatigue is the reason we lost this one and i think we will still feel the effects next weekend too. I could be wrong and the table doesn't represent the quality of the teams.
agree about fridays game having some affect. but also throw into the mix, no KIng, Harrison, Anderson, Monaghan. I know some of u don't like Clarky but at least he would have been fresh, or is he out injured

i disagree, apart from benny. myler, moz, bridge and carvell hardly broke into a sweat on fri night. our form players did not perform ie briers, monaghan they are the engine room. bad day at the office these things happen, think some people on here think we are invincible we are gonna have good days and bad days thats part of rl
Morley was definetily suffering from 5 mins on. Hodgson, Westwood and Carvell looked like they hadn't even played Friday and were possibly our 3 best players. Bridge and Myler were ineffective but didnt appear tired.
Friday's game wasnt the reason we lost, not in terms of the players fatigue anyway. A much disrupted week in training, maybe. I'll just give Salford credit for yesterday because their defence was outstanding. They pinpointed Monaghan and nailed him at marker before he could get a scoot on almost every time. It's also become very clear over the last couple of seasons now that our side is not good in those conditions. I hope we sort that issue out becuase it's like that often come playoff time.
