I think we should stop worrying about refs now. We have two live games per week, every week. We have more exposure in the media than ever before, so refs can't really get away with bad performances/ "shennanigans" ie bent performances. Yes they get things wrong, but not the extent of yesteryear.
A lot of you younger posters (God, that makes me sound old) are spoilt with some reasonable refereeing performances. You should have had to put up with some of the "questionable" "performances" of the likes of
Fred Lindop
Ronnie Campbell
Gerry Kershaw
Billy Thompson
Robin Whitfield
and the despicable John Smith (a very bitter man), that I did, from a young age. These were in the days when RL was only fleetingly shown on Grandstand, and refs could do what ever they wanted, whoever to.
Honestly, the current crop are a hell of a lot better compared with what we had 20-30 years ago.
