Locker Cup is back - yey : Tue May 21, 2019 12:02 pm
https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/sp ... t-anfield/

So many great memories of a very fiercely contested "friendly".

I wonder what other retro thing they will bring back.

1. Pitchside collection with large grey blanket to catch coins.
2. Little trolley of refreshments circumnavigating the field, complete with attendant youth with "soup" backpack.
3. Entrance of the Gladiators music.
4. Madcap chases over the Causeway into Bridgefoot.

Oh deep joy, the Locker Cup was superb and the season generally went downhill after that.

What I'd give for one of our halves to emulate John Woods Locker Cup & Wire debut and burn Wigan's defence off straight from a scrum standing start. I still have the stain.

How about having walls of corregated steel positioned in the gents in place of the urinals? They could also block the drains so that we're wading through 2 inches of urine. Happy days.

The mens toilets under the Fletch deserved World Heritage Site status.

Clever ploy, adds a tiny bit of spice to an otherwise ‘meh’ game, what with us being a few too many points off Saints and having only beaten Wigan in the cup the other week, it was getting a bit dull.

Side note, when was the last time it was played for? I remember it as a kid in the mid-to-late 90’s at Wilderspool.

Magic memories. It felt like time stood still when Cullen was running after Goodway. Everyone in the ground, bar Goodway, knew what was coming.

1995. It's currently 12 wins each from 24 games.

Not bad considering Wigan had an open chequebook for over half of it - fully professional, whilst our lot were training after work on Loushers Lane.

I also remember Greg Mackey making his debut at Wigan in the Locker Cup, and scoring opposite Andy Greg who had left the year before.

Was a real, the king is dead long live the king moment.
