No, he is. Philbin is a decent bench prop who’ll come on and run it in at speed a few times. However, he has only made 100+ metres twice (out of 18 games) whereas Thompson has done so 9 times out of 15 games. Thompson is a world class prop who does big minutes and makes big metres, always landing on his front and playing the ball quickly. He’s also younger than Philbin yet has a grand final win to his name and has been in the dream team as well as the World XIII. What’s Philbin done? I don’t see Philbin anywhere near the main England setup either. I’m not trying to wind anyone up, all the facts suggest that Thompson is a much better player who will go on to have a far greater career.
