I think the Warrington efforts at promoting the game this year have been fantastic and a much needed tonic! They now have a great product on and off the field and are working hard on the image of RL. Game day is a pleasure at the HJ. It’s a breath of fresh air and as a previous poster said is promoting the game in front of potential new sponsors! The more hype the better! Keep it up for me. I wish the others would follow suit instead of just boasting about the size of their flat caps!
Really agree, and agree with other posters who've backed it. The sport needs as much positive exposure as possible, and I'm proud that my team is making waves on this front.
It's quite an advertisement as well. Having a plane fly over portrays a 'big time' event. Warrington's promotion of events this year has been outstanding. Hopefully, we'll hire the red arrows to hail our grand final success, whenever that maybe???!!!...
For me, saints are going to miss Roby but I still think they'll have too much for us.
What we need to do as a matter of priority is to try and gain command of the ruck area, which means full on intensity in defence ie moving up as a line right up to their attack and not stopping short allowing space for their forwards to build momentum, and backs to execute their moves. Then we're relying on our key players to play to their max and inspire the rest.
I would have one of our Tongans on from the start; theres no point bringing them on in the second half if we're down a few points, the damage is done,we need to set our stall out from the very start and put some hits in.
In an ideal world, if players were fully fit, I'd start with Hill, Clark,Coops, BMM, Hughes, Westwood in the pack. The saints pack are'nt going steam roll that lot. On the bench: Philbin, Aku, and j Clark with Atkins. Our passing isn't there yet, so if we're playing the power game down the middle (which we'll probably do), then use the power players, otherwise there's no point using that tactic.
We can do it, and if we do, it would be a real boost. Fingers crossed.
No Roby means you’ve got a chance. Clark is your best player by a mile so we will need to win the forward battle (shouldn’t be a problem when Walmsley and Thompson are on) or he’ll run riot. No Taia for us and Percival is a doubt as well so it’s probably your best chance to beat us. If those 3 are missing and you don’t win then I imagine the feeling between Warrington fans and players won’t be positive. I’d say we’re better in every position apart from hooker so I fancy us by 16.
Regarding the game I think we make too many errors and give away too many penalties (last week was better) to beat saints. I hope it's a good game, we need high completion and good territory to trouble them though and we have been struggling a bit on that front they're better than us at the moment but in a close game we have the key players who can win a match.
Cant see past Saints at all on Friday. Of course I hope I'm wrong. They are a cut above everyone this year, and I don't think were as good as we think we are. We are probably the 3rd best side in the league at the moment behind Saints and Hull (il leave the semi talk for a few weeks time, I think we will take a bit of a snotting personally).
Weve got pack memebers that are off the boil (obviously that can change), then again we have a bang in form Daz Clark. I havent seen much of a fluent attack for most of the year bar Hull away, and Austins individual brilliance in other games. Have we been good to be 2nd? or is it more a case of a poor league this year?
Or am i being harsh? im still and always will be a non Patton fan and I've said before, for where we want to be (i.e winning the league) this guy is not and never will be the answer (I know injuries have put him where he is). He might do a job against your Wakefields of this world, but has he we ever had a 'worldie' against a good side? Like a really good side like we will play Friday? has he pulled us out of the sh!te when Austin has been poor? For me, not really.
I just think we are lacking something, and i cant see past Saints winning the lot, if not, there is only 1 side on current form who can stop them and thats Hull.....
Was at the Widnes game Friday so taped the Saints game v Leeds and watched it yesterday. Saints were poor. Leeds were shocking! I’ll be taking Wire with a 4 start on Friday.
No i don't think your being Harsh at all Longbarn, i completely agree. I'd say we've just been more consistant than other teams year. We've scraped a few wins and lost some games we shouldn't have, we're definately not as good as we think we are. So far i can't remember a game where 1-17 have been brilliant, we have had good games where 2-3 players are excellent but the rest are average and that seems to be the general theme. Where as Saints are consistant across the field and all play well. That's why they're in the position they're in and i can't see us getting past them. I pray we all click at the same time at some point but i can't see it at the moment.
Saints aren’t on cruise control by any means. I was at their home game v Hull KR and they were poor. They beat Salford at home with the help of some bizarre refereeing decisions. They recently lost at London and were far from good last Friday! I know Warrington haven’t been on fire either but a home win is certainly within your grasp!

Wow... imo 'Saints by 16' tells me no chance...you must gave forgotten your 1st sentence... So then if Roby was playing...by how many then?

Warringtons front row are better than Saints with or without Roby! Saints 2nd row are better than Warringtons. 1-5 Saints are superior. Half backs not much in it but Warrington just as Austin has the wow factor. 13 I don’t know either teams so can’t judge
If I'm honest, and it pains me to say this, I reckon it's a 32-10 job to saints, even without Roby.
Our attack doesn't seem to have a potent system where the structure and coaching out-foxes the opposition. At this moment in time, I'm struggling to see an ethos in our play which'll seriously challenge saints or Hull on form. Banging it down the middle, (excuse the term), kind of works if you have 6 heavy, fit forwards. What is disappointing so far, is that, with the quality of players we have, we seem to be shackled by playing one-dimensional rugby- which doesn't suit our players in my opinion. Our backline has, for me,has so much unlocked potential in terms of moves, like Holbrook has created, and even the much maligned Shaun Wayne. Its ok if we have ruck authority-most things will work, but we need something else. We need a complete game, a game for all seasons and all teams. We haven't at the mo. I really, really hope I'm wrong, but saints are gonna show us how it's done on Friday.
