Half-time at London : Fri Sep 20, 2019 9:10 am
A season that promised so much ends in despair. Again. Where did it all go wrong?Looking back on our results, I recall that when we played London away on July 6 - at which point we were comfortably in 2nd place in the table - we were excellent in attack in the first half and went in 36-0 up. Happy days. In the second half we were appalling and got nilled. In our nine league games since then, we have scored 12, 18, 10, 12, 6, 6, 23, 4 and 12.
A strange and sudden reversal in form. Almost as strange as the mid-season departures of Ryan Atkins and Kevin Brown and the late-season disappearance of Matt Davis, all without proper explanation from either the club or the media.
Looking ahead, Chris Hill will be 32 by the time next season starts, while Mike Cooper and Stefan Ratchford are 31. Seven players have gone, and of the three to have been recruited so far, one is injury-plagued and will be 31 in March, one is from the Championship and one is an inexperienced youngster.
Those 'cracks' we papered over with the cup win are starting to look more like the San Andreas Fault.
