I know Sad man likes a wind up, but hard to disagree that using Gelling to promote the club at the moment is a little boneheaded.

He's only there as his shirt number was the next day of the countdown, they have been doing it all week

He’s in the squad to play at the weekend, available for selection and is still contracted to the club.

Trial pending and he’s not been found guilty, until then, what’s the big deal with us using our current number three as part of the countdown to our game?

If you can't immediately see the answer to that question then I'm not sure there's much I can say that would help you.

Funny how people who seem to want to take some sort of moral ground, choose to ignore the basic premise of British justice, which is innocent until proven guilty?

If Gelling is found guilty, then I'm sure the club will take appropriate action. Until then, they should follow that basic rule of our law, which they seem to be doing.

Given the severity of the charges, it would be better for the club to keep Gelling on a lower profile.

Using him in promotional material with these charges hanging over him is a deliberate choice and it looks provocative. The promotional material is about building the club's brand. A certain proportion of the target audience who sees him being used the promotional material will have a negative reaction so it is counter productive. There are plenty of other players who could have been used in the material that wouldn't have the negative associations and so would be safer at this point to promote our brand.

I agree that he is innocent until proven guilty so it is fair to honour his contract, allow him to participate in training and be eligible for selection in games, but discretion should be used when it comes to using him to promote the club.

The same principles of British justice apply to Prince Andrew who has also not been found guilty of any crime. However, he has been discreetly removed from making public appearances so he is not promoting the Royal Family or the UK.

It's almost as if the club know a bit more about the case/proposed charges and have no issue with Gelling's selection and use of him in promotional work.
