Reopening everything doesn't stop cancer deaths, it just increases the number of people who will go into the NHS needing acute care and diverts resources away from cancer care.

The only way to let the NHS start to catch up dealing with the backlog of people needing treatment for other things is to stop the covid cases going in.

Also the more people who contract covid, the greater the number of people in the population who survive the illness but suffer long-term damage that requires ongoing health support, which is also a diversion of health resources over the long term.

We don't need to reopen everything, just not close everything in the manner we did and are still doing.

I was in hospital in April with covid. The place was empty. I have visited 3 times since for post-covid treatment and the place is a ghost town. Even the staff admit they have never been so quiet and under worked.

The damage we have inflicted by lockdown and mentally scarring people into locking themselves away is something that will far outdo anything covid will do.

The only thing we have learnt is our fabled NHS isn't fit for purpose in its present guise.

Wait till the NHS is replaced with a private insurance system, then you will get people scared of going to hospital because they are scared of racking up a huge bill that their insurance won't cover, as happens in the US.

Salford should be fine. I watched the game v FC and didn;t see any instances where a Hull player got within 1m of any Salford player.

Money and the economy dictate people's welfare, as we are already seeing and will see further over the next decade, so saying we are somehow trading them is a ridiculous thing to say. If you destroy your economy, you destroy your welfare.

The fear is now as dangerous as the virus. In a decade's time, we will look at the aftermath of massive cancer deaths and mental health epidemics and wonder what the hell we were playing at.

Not a ridiculous thing to say in the context of the example. Why are there tables within inches of each other, whereas other places have arranged them at a distance.

I've no problem with a 'free' health system, but ours is badly managed and abused terribly by it's customers.

Presently, we have a system where we basically encourage people to abuse themselves, knowing full well they will be bailed out, treatment wise, by the glorious NHS.. Billions are wasted on these people, who are then the main numbers when something like a highly contagious and deadly coronavirus pops up.

The good thing about this virus is that it has exposed these people to the folly of their lazy lifestyle choices and should, though I don't hold much hope, make people more responsible for their future health choices - By removing the 'free' care option too, it might encourage even more.

The number of Hull FC players and staff testing positive has risen to 12 (9 players + 3 staff)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/53791886

All the clubs, but especially Hull, will have to take a long hard look at their protocals. The good news is that, so far, no sign that it has spread to Salford but I don't suppose we'll know for sure for a couple of weeks.
