Hope you can help. I attended my first rugby league game on new years day 80 or 81.had spent new years eve with a friend I met at uni who came from Padgate. I came from Bristol so my only access to league had been challenge Cup and floodlit trophy on BBC. I'd always enjoyed it but played Union. Now having lived in Huddersfield for 30 years I'm a long term giants season ticket holder but can't recall exactly who wire played. I thought it was Barrow but then for many years I was convinced des Drummond played but he couldn't have. I do think there was a black winger who scored a hateful but could be wrong. Can anyone help cos Google can't

Always played Leigh on Boxing Day. Wigan was New Year's Day.
The black wingers would be Henderson Gill of Wigan or Phil Ford of Warrington.

Wasn't Green Vigo (the one who caused Paul Bishop to swallow his tongue) a Wigan player at that time?

Pretty sure you're correct Lefty. Weren't Wigan in Division 2 that season though resulting in us playing Oldham on 1st Jan? Tony Waller and Roger O'Mahony were sent off for repeatedly fighting I think.

OP references New Years Day 1980, 1981, and 1982 above.
