I suppose it depends a bit on how much he is on. He can be very useful at times as most big lads with pace are.

Re: Tom Lineham : Thu Jun 24, 2021 12:12 pm
I think Lineham overall did better than people expected when he joined, he went through spells where he got written off and he consistently scored tries and he played well in some big games so he deserves respect.

He seemed to take steps forward under Price's coaching and become a better player.

Like a lot of our players, he's one of the better players in the league in his position but he's short of the top category, for reasons people have discussed on here. When you have a team full of that sort of player, its no surprise we ended up as one of the better teams in the league but short of the top category who win the Grand Finals.

Overall he might be a bit underrated in the rugby league media/community, and replacing him won't be straightforward, we could easily be in a situation where we end up with a downgrade.

Yes, that's the issue in a nutshell. It's easy to drop him, not so easy to replace his quality. Perhaps Powell sees Ashton as a replacement ? But unless they have someone in mind I wouldn't be in favour of ditching him.

Runs it in better than most forwards.

Big game player.

Good finisher.

Despite the disciplinary issues, I'd have kept him. As SC said, he's no superstar but I think he's underrated outside Warrington.

a year or 2 ago, he was first name on the team sheet for me, price seemed to love him, despite the brain farts.

Re: Tom Lineham : Thu Jun 24, 2021 4:26 pm
I suppose with Lineham it’s about what return we get for the money. We paid a transfer fee and got a decent big game player, well above average winger. He re-signed on what I assume was a better deal a couple of years ago. Obviously we don’t know what that salary is but I can imagine he’ll be wanting more than what we actually value him. I think Powell will be able to get another decent enough winger playing at the same level, like he has done at Cas with the likes of Eden etc.

He’s had 6 years here and most of that time (barring the terrible disciplinary record) he’s been an asset. Probably time for a fresh start though. Hull KR?

Lineham is a much better winger than Charnley in my opinion, and brainfarts aside, I'd be sad to see him go.

But, in Powell we trust.....

Re: Tom Lineham : Thu Jun 24, 2021 4:50 pm
My perception is the opposite really. Slow, cumbersome rarely breaks a tackle and unable to track back if there's a break on. Bit of a poor mans Ryan Hall.

Any stats to show I'm wrong in any of it? Genuine question.

I will say in his defence that we don't play a winger's game of Rugby and we have a couple of centres who like to run with ball in hand on the edges so maybe a team with a set sweeping move or 3 will see him fall over the line a bit more

Big game player Tom, and that inside ball after drawing 2 men and was as good as any winger could do in the world rl.
I sense that Lineham being allowed to go, may be more of a board level decision than one from Powell. The response from Wire following his last needless suspension, was one of deflated, given up. This time the club made no effort to contest the suspension.
