Assistant Coaches : Sun Apr 18, 2021 7:51 pm
Lee Briers and Andrew Henderson.
Do we give them the benefit of the doubt.
Does Steve Price tell them this is the way we are going to play. Coach them I’m not interested in your points of view.
They get another chance under Daryl Powell
Or
In Lee Briers case is it a Kieron Cunningham moment.
Sorry Lee you were a great player and a legend for this club but I’m afraid it’s time to call it a day.
As for Andrew Henderson we brought him in as a genuine replacement for Steve Price a coach for the future and have not given him a chance. Everyone raved the way in had London playing. For me he should of got the interim coach job and Steve Price should of gone as soon as he made his intentions clear.
I personally hope he gets the Castleford job and proves the Warrington Chief Executive and board wrong.

Briers needs to fly the nest. His status at the club isn’t helpful, the fracture between his playing career and how the club has performed since then has our fans split on their opinions of him. Some are fiercely loyal, some think that he is the problem for our faltering attack.

Realistically, his job is to offer up ideas to the head, who develops a plan, which Briers is told to deliver to the best of his ability. So we have no idea how good of a coach he is.

He needs to go out on a ‘loan’ for a few years, coach in the championship, earn his stripes and come back when the time is right (should the club believe he is the long term project, if not, I have no idea why we have kept him on after the last coaching overhaul)

We never will know the freedoms or lack of they are allowed. That's not really the question it's how well are they translating prices instructions to the training ground and match day?
.
I think that we are heaping too much on what the coaches are doing when we have a group of key players who I believe have become complacent, they have a cc medal or two and are relatively happy with their lot. Year on year the failings have been put down to lack of big game experience team selection questionable tactics from the opposition. Yet what are now seen as our leaders have overseen the failure of 2 coaches I dont see them out seeing a 3rd.

I do believe that not deliberately too many key players have become accustomed to a relatively easy life at warrington as all blame seems to go in the coach and the annual scape goat so being there it there abouts is now acceptable!! We need a coach who brings a mindset of wanting to win every game to the team and makes then push themselves harder as I certainly would say the players are as culpable as the coach and assistants in their performances!!!

A point worth picking up on this thread is, the last assistant coach who got such scrutiny and/or blame for the first teams form is currently the challenge cup holder.

As far as I’m aware Tony Smith had 3 no assistant coaches during his time at Warrington. Agar ( who this board slaughtered) Poaching and Lowes.
Richard Marshall and Lee Briers in background.
Marshall and Agar are now Super league coaches, I believe Henderson stands a good chance for the Cas role. So maybe it’s time for Briers to earn his stripes elsewhere. Funnily enough I recall Lee talking up Carcasone lately maybe that’s his destination.

What you say here was my reasoning for wanting Wane for coach, not because of his brand of rugby he just doesn’t do prima donnas, he would bin them, Smith did that when he arrived initially when he benched Briers, he just didn’t continue you it and we are where you are suggesting now IMO

True, but I don't think that winning the Challenge Cup really indicates very much. Leeds won it by winning three matches, two of which were against Hull KR and Salford. You need to look much longer-term to reasonably assess how a coach is performing.

Both will be gone with Price and I am glad. Allow Price to freshen things up and bring his own staff with him.
