"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

If you've not listened to it the interview he gave to the Eddie and Stevo podcast a couple of months ago was interesting and revealing.
Hopefully he'll land somewhere that suits his undoubted talents and mindset.

The finished article was a fantastic player, so thanks for the memories and good luck in whatever you try next.

A brilliant player and as Moe pointed out the last of his ilk...which is a real shame. He got better with age and playing in better teams but I don't really buy the inconsistency label he had early in his career. For me he was always a class act, and blimey could we do with his genius in the last 20 right now. A true Warrington legend who would always be in any all time Wire team.

Yes, I mentioned the inconsistent thing, but I agree with you that he was always a class act.

I thing Briers shows just how difficult it is to improve players and to coach. If it was easy you would just watch him play and they try and replicate what he did on the field. I'm afraid it can't be done.

Yep, playing and coaching are two different animals. I can't think of any sport where there is a clear correlation between being a successful player and becoming a successful coach. Some manage it, but not all, and some of the best coaches were distinctly average players.

Thanks for the last 25 years Lee.
You've given me many memorable and enjoyable moments.

Fantastically talented player that - at times - carried Warrington singlehandedly.
I think in general we almost 'got used' to his excellence and often took it for granted.
Only when it's gone do you fully realize.

His 'party boy' image as a youngster - and all the things he allegedly got up to - certainly hampered his career early and probably stayed with him for longer than it warranted, but the turnaround under Tony Smith showed what he was capable of.

It's the right thing for him to leave now if he wants a long term coaching career.
Stepping outside his comfort zone could do more to develop him than could ever be achieved by staying at Warrington.

All the best Lee and thanks once again.

Wonderful player. The clubs best half back since Parry Gordon imo. Thanks for all the memories and best of luck for the future Lee.
I'm just sorry it has to end here without the opportunity to prove himself as a coach.

Great player on his day who has a lot to thank Tony Smith for.

A true Wire hero and a great half back and entertainer....I've never known referees smile so much when someone is pretty much calling them an idiot!

Thanks for the memories Lee, look after those Challenge Cup medals and we look forward to applauding you off the field at the end of the season.

(PS - how did you ever get away with packing down In the opposing teams scrum?)
