James Harrison : Mon Jul 12, 2021 4:25 pm
Interesting comment from Phil Kinsella yesterday after watching the Widnes game with Featherstone. ‘ thought James Harrison went well for Fev, all the attributes for a middle and not just as an offloader - he can pass a ball.
If he is coming to Warrington next year they have got a lad who can develop in to a top forward…..’.
Sounds ideal for loose forward and a back row of Currie, Holmes & Harrison could be a big upgrade in that department and could signal a different playing style. Good sign too of Powell’s early recruitment plans.

Haven’t seen him play but heard he runs good lines and has an eye for a gap. Maybe Powell sees him in the McMeeken mould? Similar size certainly and by the looks could play front or back row - be interesting to see how he develops if the signing is confirmed.

Harrison played back row in the 1895 Final yesterday and played very well, scoring one try and having another disallowed when he seemed convinced he had got the ball down.

It does seem that most coaches see him as a middle, but playing back row takes away the one area that I think he's a bit weak in, in that his slim frame means that he sometimes loses the collision when body tackling big forwards.

Everything else about him is positive though - described as Fev's fittest middle and thus "the glue that holds us together" by his coach so routinely plays big minutes, can pass the ball well for one who plays his position and a tremndously likeable and wholehearted player.

I only saw the try he scored as part of the highlights package yesterday, My instant thought seeing his physique is 2nd row.

Same shape as Graeme West, who played both 2nd row and later prop very effectively in a very good RL career.

I think that's a good comparison in terms of physique.

He sounds in the mould of Pearce-Paul at Wigan, but hopefully with more pace.

You do not need to have a high % of fat to be a prop. Unless it is cold.
