He was on loan to Newcastle Thunder but I am unsure whether he has been loaned out again?

The reserve competition is the best way for young player development and needs to be reinstated ASAP.

All young players need regular games to develop and improve, not all have Wrenchs ability, his footwork and skills look very good.

Agreed on the reserves, back next season, hopefully a better version than the reserves last year before covid struck, with clubs, including my own, playing players from all over the place, many who wernt even contracted to the club they were playing for.

If Riley Dean was as good as Sam Tomkins and George Williams at 16,17,18,19…he’d already have a long term deal, and George Williams would be on his way back to Wigan.
The kids ok, but quite simply, he has to work, and want it harder. My gripe is exactly the same with Patton, the guy has skills, but he’s more afraid to mess up than back himself.

Nathan Wood wasn’t the best halfback around and I think not as skilful as Dean or Patton, but he was bold and always backed himself, he’d be getting groans and criticism one time, but rather than retreat into a clam shell…5 min later, he’d back himself again to a reprise of ‘na na na na na..,,,!’

A lot of this will be down to the coach. If the player is told to play a limited game by the coach, then it raises the stakes on them going rogue and taking risks, because if it goes wrong the coach will likely lose patience with them rapidly.

DVDV appeared to give a young Briers a good amount of freedom to take risks, he never bagged him publicly or left him out of the team for making mistakes. Although in fairness, Briers showed a huge skillset and ability to break down defences from the moment he entered the league, so when a player has such obvious talent they are more likely to be given a long leash from their coach.

Well that doesn’t look promising for the lad. No point in being out on loan if he can’t make a York squad which has had a poor season currently lying in 12th position.
My thoughts at the beginning of season was I wanted York as the extra team in Super League and they would be a top 3 side vying for promotion.

NOT TRUE

Unfortunately Riley tested positive for COVID otherwise he would have started the game; such a shame for the lad to miss out on a Wembley appearance in such circumstances.

Thanks for the heads up Walter.

A lot of people on here, including me, thought he had been dropped.

Saturday must been be a right head wobble for Riley. Hope he gets other opportunities to play at Wembley, and doesn't follow the unfortunate path of Simon Grix, where that venue is concerned.

Wane gave Williams a tough time at Wigan dropping him for quite a few matches. But he backed him publicly to learn from his mistakes and improve his skills. Not so at Warrington it seems. where the coaching regime is rather more rigid. Amongst others Johnson - for whom we paid a fee - leaves on loan and earns a two year contract at HKR. Wigan's success with youngsters puts us to shame.

I thought there must have been a reason, others were very quick to jump to conclusions.

He's been starting for York when fit and available.

Thanks for the information Walter. Matter of fact statement.
Obviously you post something not understanding why a player rated highly by his parent club and it’s fans can’t make a York lineup which hasn’t performed to their capabilities this season when that is the point of him being there to gain invaluable experience.
