A polite note to keep things civil no matter what your persuasion is. Ideally posts should be about the alleged incident at Headingley not the wider debate (that's for another forum).

Unless you were that person or in ear shot then I suppose we will have to wait for the RFL inquiry before we know anything further.

Without wanting to stir up the hornet's nest too much, but out of genuine curiosity, if the Leeds lad commits a foul tackle on the pitch, and someone in the crowd shouts 'you dirty b**tard' (as will often happen in a RL stadium), why does that shout become any more offensive if it includes the player's nationality?

Also, where does abusive chanting become offensive?... is 'you fat b**tard' to a particularly large player now no longer acceptable and becomes something u can be banned from a ground for?

Nationality is one of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 (captured by race).

Size is not captured by the Equality Act 2010.

Hate crimes use the same definitions, broadly speaking.

I will say that I bet every single British player who has played in the NRL was called a Pommie so and so at some point....and that's in the forward thinking, non-racist utopia that is Australia.

Which doesn't take into account of an individuals personal sensitivity. Someone might be far more for their county than their country, so you could shout you Yorkshire ba..... and they find it more hurtful than any other abuse but doesn't get the same level of protection.

True, and everyone getting on their high horse about this idiot who has abused oledski has more than likely shouted "you aussie(insert expletive)" at many players from other clubs over the years.

Lots of whataboutery going on here. We operate within the current legislative framework which protects people from abuse on account of their nationality (amongst other things). Most sports organisations are taking a long overdue stand against discrimination and abuse and people choose to nitpick over details.

The point being that we don't know what the details are, so I'll end this here for now folks. Until we have a clear, confirmed idea of what went on we aren't going anywhere. Thanks
