Last week’s Journal excelled itself with articles on pages 1,5 and 47 about the re-branding. But this was probably only a one off. Apart from the 1895 final and the grand final, the reporting of the club has been abysmal. For normal league matches it has usually been a small one column report, with one additional article detailing injuries and/or an interview with the coach
in fact sport in general is given short shrift with only a small column given over to Atherton Collieries match reports the only other sport covered.
Older fans may wish to remember the broadsheet of long ago, when with competition from the old Leigh Reporter we had massive coverage every week with people eager to buy it every Thursday. I thought we had reached this Nirvana a few years ago with the appearance of the Leigh Observer which not only had proper match reports, but also had Derek’s weekly column. Unfortunately that didn’t last very long.
So is it to much to ask that now we are in Superleague, the Journal gets it’s act together and gives what our club and us fans deserve- proper coverage of a top flight rugby league club?

The Journal is staffed by an empty crisp packet and the ghost of the memory of local newspapers, so we're lucky we get anything at all.

I'd be surprised if they have anyone who is purely dedicated to Leigh news, but has duties across a range of NW local newspapers. Local news reporting is on its booty.
