I'm currently unemployed on UC and I've made a membership my first priority after living costs. It's the only 'luxury' I can (barely) afford. I don't drink, I can't afford to socialise except at matches. My Dad has recently gone on State Pension with no additional income and he's got a £5/month cheaper membership as well a substantially higher income than I do, and he is helping me with the cost. It's tough for a lot of people, I know that from firsthand experience, but a couple of quid here or there is not likely to make going to the game much more feasible, especially with the prices of everything going up so frequently. If £2 or £3 makes the difference then you're not likely to be able to afford to go in a month or two anyway.
It's a horrible reality, but this country is currently a mess, prioritising corporate greed over supporting those who really need it and far too many people are in desperate hardship.
