Paying off contracts would be wasted money, I reckon. Unless we get an Apprentice cast-off to flog the deadwood to other clubs.
We always hear the same argument about paying players off, and I'm not disputing that players would be entitled to get paid.
But do we have anything about us at all in terms of transfer dealings etc? Surely Allan Rowley's background with player management & representation etc would suggest we should at least have that skillset at the club. If that's the case surely we could offload a few players on loan or on short term contracts, with the recipient clubs (probably NL2 clubs looking for signings in time for an end of season push) willing to cover a fair portion, if not all, of the contract payments. So we could free some wages up if we really wanted to. And loan signings returning to parent clubs, like Nanyn for example, would incur no payoff at all on our part. Etc, etc...
Even if the recipient clubs couldn't afford the contract payments and we have to contribute towards them and take losing the difference on the chin, offloading 4 or 5 under-performers would free up enough cash to bring in at least a couple of half decent loan signings to try and sure things up for the rest of the season.
