I can't comment on what other Officers were doing, but I can assure you that the Officers at the scene would not have been neglecting other duties.
It bothers me that people think the Police are somehow not allowed to be normal human beings. Being seen eating in public is a terrible offence for a Police Officer as somewhere there are old women being burgled and children being neglected and proper criminals that need to be caught etc. How dare the Police Officer, eat or drink or go to the toilet, during duty time otherwise known as when people say "I'm paying your wages"!
God forbid, a Police Officer, spend a couple of minutes out of their busy shift to speak to a colleague, having offered their services to assist in what will amount to be a massive investigation.
If people put into context what they do whilst they are at work, then this is exactly the same as the Police. Do office workers stop to say hello to colleagues as they pass in the corridor, do builders stop working to have their dinner.... I could go on.
It realy grates on me that we continue to serve people who have nothing better to do than to moan about the service we provide. Yes, it may not always be to the standard some people would want, but what company can offer 100% satisfaction constantly.
Give the guys a break and respect the fact that there are people out there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, putting their lives on the line and that every now and again, take two minutes to relax and talk to colleagues, never knowing when the radio is going to call next!
Soap box put away.............for now!
