I would imagne there is only so much money in the pot to provide to elite academies, the board reviewing the applications viewed only 10 viable - location wise itself we are not in a good place with so many surrounding teams already having well set up and proven structures, plus, and I’m not sure if theTS counts be we haven’t really had and academy for many years - I wouldn’t think a lot going in our favour, the likes of Bradford, Cas and HKR seem a far more viable option.
And I’m not sure that we can’t have an academy it’s just the the RFL (or whoever) haven’t given us the funds towards it - so we pay for it ourselves

If there was only enough money in the pot for 10 teams, why say they will grant a max of 12 licences?
I think we are in an equally good (or bad) location as Bradford, Cas and HKR with regards to surrounding teams. They have opposing large team relatively close (or closer for HKR).
If having a previous/current academy is a necessity then that should be a stated criteria. That would basically mean that no new academy can ever be granted.
I am also not saying that Leigh deserve it more than any other club, I simply don’t understand why a proposal from a club that were just granted entry to SL, that contained a youth pathway component as part of its proposal, is then denied the ability to provide an elite level for local youth.
I really feel for the kids who suddenly find themselves without a club at Cas etc. How the hell is that good for the future of the game ?
Some of those kids will be lost to the game, or displace players at amateurs clubs who will then give up and be lost.
