The attendances are now very poor, considering that Leigh have normally had 3000+ crowds for as long as I can remember.
Is this a television issue, economic or due to the post Super League relegation season ?
Can we expect an increase in interest now we have reached a final?
As stated, I think all three have a part to play, and regardless of how many/who, is/are brought in, I don't see numbers through the gates improving except for games versus Fev and at playoff time. I am sure that DB will also know that this is the likely scenario this season (though hope for as many as possible of course). It is hard to criticise anyone not going right now, as disposable income is at an all time low for some and none existent for many. TV is an issue, with ever changing game days (though that is likely our long term future if we get where we want to stay) and the ability to watch games for less, and with less impact on personal/family time etc. I believe the SL relegation is likely the least of the three reasons, mainly because I think DB and the club have responded very positively and sensibly, but still a factor non-the-less.
I am buoyed by DB's recent comments re the building of the team this year is not a boom or bust scenario, and trust that he is a smart, experienced and realistic business man, with the added and vital bonus of being a passionate Leyther.
