Joe Mellor gone, Gaz O'Brien is sidelined. No room for sentiment in Year 3 of Lammy's 5 year plan.

First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can.

What is the issue for Gaz OB Sep ?
I saw Sailor play 2-3 times last season and he looked very dangerous at times. He certainly has some speed, gives a great wide cutout pass, and dangerous grubbed kicks. His consistency has been questioned over in Aus, but I’m sure if this happens, A Lam and Co will craft him into a real threat.

I like Gaz, I liked Joe. Gaz was an important part of our success. Guess I am not used to Leigh buying upgrades on existing important players. It is about competition for places and taking opportunities when they arise.

I think if Tristan plays more consistently I think he will get more confidence and his game will certainly improve even more.

I agree NZ.
And sorry Sep, I thought you were alluding to an injury or such like for Gaz OB. I see that you are saying that Sailor will take his place in the 13 if he comes. That will take some doing but could well happen. I think Sailor is potentially that good.

If Sailor is coming then 3 of last season's team will have given way to accommodate him.

Joe Mellor has been released, I assume because Sailor provides cover at half back - although Joe of course was being used last season as backup hooker. Sailor is coming as a direct threat to O'Brien's position at full back and for the moment I don't see how the two will play in the same team unless something happens to either Moylan or Lam who will otherwise be the starting half backs.

Lastly, it must also mean that sadly Big Ben will have to be released.

For all this to happen Sailor really must be considered to be a significant upgrade by the powers that be.

As said before on this thread, there is suddenly no room for sentiment in these decisions. This all feels very un-Leigh like. Just goes to show how far we have come so quickly.

I don’t really see Big Ben being a miss. Never ran his weight. Pace is required and someone has reacted.

Just saw a posting on Facebook, that was a screenshot of a “X” post by DB, say that we are not able to sign Sailor as he is a currently NRL contracted player.
I went to “X” and found the post by Derek which was only 4 hours old, so late evening on Tuesday 2nd Jan.
I would have liked to have seen him here, and who knows, it may still happen.
I also believe that Big Ben is going to have his best season in UK rugby coming up, so wasn’t overly happy had he not stayed.
Onwards Leythers.

Contracts mean bugger all, if the club want to release him. I think they need cap space to upgrade Walsh and others.
