I’ve heard the quote many times, todays announcements haven’t really inspired me, after the fireworks statement was made,I felt as most fans did very positive, but I feel a bit underwhelmed. I hope the quality is yet to be announced ,I’ve a feeling Josh Woods may be the halve and it’s anybodys guess if we are to have an enforcer.
Personally Charlie I'm glad they've done it this way, announcing who we're retaining with the lads that most of us knew were coming but hopefully with the next list of players there are a few surprises that add that bit of quality that will take us on from last year

I really hope you are right, I’ve a feeling Riddy and McNally as well as josh Woods will be announced tomorrow.

defiantly take McNally but not sure about woods and riddy, woods didn't do enough for me and never takes the line on and sorry to say it but riddy got caught in possession a hell of alot last year and I think he's coming to the end of his career for a team that wants to gain promotion to sl

Exactly my feelings Ian. Nothing against the lads we have announced so far, but it is a very 'workmanlike' squad. We need two or three class players to lift that squad above 'ordinary'. At least one of those has to be a half back and one a full back, in my opinion - I don't think a combination from Martyn, Josh and Ben is going to create a lot to get excited about. Weren't we supposed to be having a crack at SL, this season?

I don't see Greg McNally as a Full Back who is SL quality at all, no doubting he is a very nice bloke & loves playing at Leigh, just I don't believe he is physically tough enough & doesn't have the presence in defense.
Riddy has been a Superb Leigh player but last season looked quite unfit & not 100% interested to me, happy to be wrong though. I like Woods in that I can see potential, but as I have said about Ben Reynolds elsewhere *who I have championed & defended for many moons* he needs to really step up & boss the game now, if he can't do that at Championship level then he won't be with Wigan long.
"Once Toronto is out of the way, I will be making a big push for promotion" - Derek J. Beaumont. I have been a big supporter of Mr Beaumont throughout all the times he has had a lot of bad press especially from some of his own, but please Derek if you are going to make statements like the one above please back it up. I would have started with a new coach, if we look at our last 4 coaches in Rowley, Jukes, Purtill and Duffy each one of those has sat in the dressing room at Leigh donning the Cherry and White to perform for the club, being so I still think that they are "one of the boy's". We need an expierenced disciplinarian who will take no sh-ite, someone who will lay the law down, someone who will obtain his own player's - within budget of course - I fear that we are just trampling over old ground when what we really need is that someone who will guide us down a new pathway
I honestly can't understand the way the club have approached this. If announcements had been drip fed through over the last week or so, people would be feeling quite good about how the squad is building up, whilst knowing there are still gaps to be filled. It would've also allowed a bit of discussion to build on social media about signings such as Ince, Addy and Hellewell instead of announcing things that are already widely known, with a message of "come back in 30 mins for the next one".
If they insist on announcing them in bulk like this, don't do a week and a half countdown with the promise of fireworks. Feels like they're trying to replicate the impact of last year's announcements, but that was from a position of fans being grateful to have any players at all.

With you there, especially if they still (hopefully) have some 'fireworks' to announce. Fireworks were never the same after 5th November!
