todays game : Mon Jun 08, 2009 9:11 am
Course he was gutted we were thrashed.

We have to do better with what we have got and like others I think we pick one or two who we know can,t possibly make a break and, if we know that as speccies, so should the person selecting our team.

Fax play great attacking rugby and can offload for fun because they know every player is looking for the ball and there,ll always be someone there in support.

I,d also like to comment on Mark Roberts. When he played for us I thought he was useless. Yesterday he didn,t look like the player we had had and it makes me ask why.

Any ideas ? Serious question too.

We played him as a centre where his defence was exposed. He is an impact forward that you bring off the bench when the opposition is tiring.

Yesterday is the first time this season, IIRC, that Roberts has come off the bench as an impact forward. He has played the vast majority of his rugby this season at centre. And at times, yes his defence has been exposed, Barrow away for instance, their centre, Ian Bell i think went round him far too easily.

All in all a top player for us, lost count how many times he just bumped your lads off yesterday, he was almost loooking for other players to run at cos most of yours had fallen off him.

Here's my view on the game;

Firstly, credit to Fax they played some great rugby with good support play, Greenwood especially. We were never going to win if we didn't take our chances.

The basic's of rugby league are passing a ball and making a tackle. We did neither with conviction yesterday, how many forward passes? One on one tackling was a disgrace and it was shocking to watch. We need to get that sorted before anything else!

From the first kick off Halifax dropped the ball and we had a set of six on their line now I don't care if we're playing Featherstone or Halifax if Nanyn runs a good line from a Watson/Ridyard ball from 5 meters odds are he'll score so why weren't we getting him on the ball when on their line? Why didn't we have any willing runners? Our try was simply a player running onto the ball on abit of an angle we didn't see this for the rest of the game.

We had enough 5 or so sets near the Fax line, kicking the ball dead or getting caught with the ball that isn't good enough and need ideas or just some runners will do for now.

In the second half we were deflated and we resorted to poor one man rugby which didn't get us anywhere.

Stewart and Hobson should be nowhere near the team.

I think the difference in mentally is the key, Halifax looked like they wanted to score everytime they had the ball in our half and they believed that they would. We don't have any players who believe they will score or break the line and that's why the rare times we do make a break theres sod all in support. It was a very poor Leigh performance if i'm honest.

Then one has to question why have Nanyn when all he can do is score from 2 yards out why not spend the money on someone who can create tries ? He can`t be cheap I know he is only on loan but we have sent players back to Super League clubs because they are not the sort of player we need.

It's simply playing to a players main strength - he could prove useful in others ways, but dare I say if he'd have got the ball in the first half when he had the chance to, we may have posted more than 6 points. Nanyn is the type of player we could do with, a player who can score tries when given the ball, he just didn't get the ball in the best positions. Also, didn't he make Mort's try?

Nanyn was very effective v Fev he scored two tries, we didnt use him properly yesterday and that was probably why he was shaking his head has he walked off yesterday.

someone said on here to try Morty on the wing well that clearly did'nt work he is a full back and thats where he should play .I have to say i could'nt really pick out 1 decent move albeit we where behind the sticks so you cant really spot an attack the same -am i clutching at straws here.Well i think each and every one of them can take a good look at themselves after that game and i have said before i dont pick holes in a game win or lose as i prefer to find the positives but this time i cant.

Not a move, as such, but the ball to Magraff was a corker. Performance wasn't much better when watching from the touchline, I can assure you

I wouldn't worry too much, It is just a case of when we get on a roll, we are virtually unplayable. We dismantled Batley even more so and they are beating the likes of Whitehaven now.

What I mainly noticed and it is the first time in watching Fax against Leigh was that there were several players who didn't have pride for the shirt. Several who knew the game was up after 30 minutes and were settling for their losing/performance pay.

You need to send Nanyn back as he offers nothing really, I'm sure there's more proming local lads who can do his job and so much more. I was impressed with Morrison. With a front row who really couldn't be arsed (apart from Hobson who was THE best dummy runner ever) Morrison put his hand up in attack and defence and tried his heart out. As did Watson, Taylor, Hill, Mort, but from reading your opinions those are the usual suspects who put the effort in.
