...aaand therein lies the rub!
Super League Play-offs:
Sixth placed Salford won away from home against third placed Huddersfield.
Fifth placed Leeds won away at fourth placed Catalans and then at second placed Wigan.
Sixth placed (iteration deliberate) Salford then frightened the living daylights out of Top o't'Shop Saints on the latters' midden.
It would be a miscarriage of justice were Saints not to lift the trophy next weekend, IBHO!
Championship Play-Offs:
Sixth placed York (who shipped 100 points in a game last month) won away at third placed 'Fax and now stand two wins away from Super League!
Fifth placed Batley won away at fourth placed Barrow.
After 25 Championship wins on the bounce, it would be a miscarriage of justice were Leigh not to gain promotion to Super League in early October, IBHO!
SkY would argue that the format has produced upsets and a lot of excitement (and we did indeed witness two great battles today - with upsets) but SkY WOULD argue that!!
La Jeunesse Madame de Bongseur (not a Rugby League fan though she is constantly bombarded with info) commented last night that it was a ridiculous system.
If IMG want to spread the gospel they need to cut out all the crap that is ridiculed by the non believers.
When Leigh last won the old First Division there was rejoicing aplenty in the six vills.
Thereafter came this bauble knock out comp called The Premiership. No one gave an es aitch one tee about it. Leigh hosted Wire for a (rare) 1-1 draw and then were tonked at Wilderspool. Nobody gave a monkey's!
Then Maurice and his mates got involved!
