Matches Played 17th October 2010U 8's v West BankWest Bank arrived with six players due to some of the younger ones dropping down to the under 7's. East’s Kayleigh Acton volunteered to play for the opposition and had a very good game.
The team are learning week by week with superb defensive and attacking work also back up play is now starting to be used. Great play from all players, keep up the good work. Final score 5-5. Try scorers: Zac Earnshaw(2), Adam Jones (3)
U 9’s v Wigan St Judes (Away)The Under 9’s took the short trip to Wigan to face a big powerful St Judes side in what proved to be another fantastic game of rugby to watch. East started the game very well with some solid defence from the whole team with St Judes coming from all angles but the tackling from the kids held firm. Easts attack was excellent moving the ball about the forwards making the hard yards resulting in some great tries scored the score at Half Time 5 -1 to East. The second half was much closer with the defence just slacking off a little letting Judes in for a few tries but East held on scoring five more tries. The game ended Leigh East 10 v St Judes 6
U 10’s v West Bank Bears. The game started with both sides defences on top, with some very disciplined tackling from either side. West Bank opened the scoring from a kick that bounced awkwardly.
East promptly replied with a fantastic display of passing which resulted in Kieran Bellamy touching down in the corner. East kicked on from this and really showed what they are capable of with a superb display of very disciplined tackling which shut down some very good West Bank players. A well worked set of six saw Jack Boulton touch down from short range. The east team were up for this game and displayed some brilliant defence up to half time.
Danny Carroll opened the scoring in the second half with a determined effort from close range. West Bank pulled a score back with superb effort but the East weren’t done yet some brilliant passing just saw Josh Southern pushed into touch close to the line. Nathan Hunt then added the next try from thirty yards out, again from some excellent passing.
East started to get a little ragged late on but soon settled down to some really disciplined rugby and this lead to Coby Fletcher crashing over from close range.
All the tries where converted and East ran out winners 30 points to 10.
This was probably one of the best Under 10s performances as all the players showed excellent discipline in both defence and attack and an ever improving team spirit.
U 11’s v Ince Rose Bridge (Away)The 11s travelled to Ince on Sunday morning on the back of a hard fought win against Rylands the previous week, welcoming new signing Callum Smith for his debut.
East started off in lively fashion throwing the ball around and some crunching defence. After going close a couple of times Lewis Braterski was the first to score, next on the scoreboard for East was Nathan Jones both tries unconverted before Ince hit back with a converted try of there own. Players started tiring on the big Ince pitch but Ryan Horne had just enough left in him to score a fine individual try which he converted to bring the half time score to Ince 6 East 16. This was another good team performance following on from last week with all the lads getting stuck in a working as a team. After more good pressure Ben Crompton scooted through a gap in the Ince defence for a converted try. Ince refused to be beaten and came back with another converted try before Ryan Horne made the game safe with another score which was expertly converted by Elliot Dean. A fine team performance and a pleasure to watch at times. F/T Ince 12 East 26
