I know squads need strength in depth, but I can't say I'm particularly bothered whether Brierley comes back this season or not. Especially if it's to be another loan deal.

We've just scored 90 in two weeks, and I hope we don't revert back to McNally on the wing to accommodate three half backs.

Agreed yesterday McNally prevented at least two tries by getting his body under the potential try scorer, we are far better balanced both in attack and defence with him at FB.

I guess it's down to which trade paper you read.

By the way, League Express also has Ryan Brierley coming back to Leigh.

Top 15 or so half backs in the Championship.

Joe Mellor
Jonathan Ford
Josh McCrone
Danny Craven
Jordan Lilley
Martyn Ridyard
Tom Gilmore
Ben Johnstone
Josh Woods
Scott Murrell
Joe Keyes
Dominic Bambini
Dane Chisholm
Anthony Thackray.

I don't think young Ryan qualifies personally unless we looking for mediocrity next season that is.

It is about effectiveness as an half back, directing play and moving the team around the park. Murell does it week in week out. Ryan? whilst it pains me to say it, can't fulfill that role for toffee.

No not for me Charlie.

Harold can half of the players u mention sniff a try out like brierley or go 60yards to finish off a half break, don't get me wrong he can't control a game like Murrell but we'd have riddy or woods to do that and I personally think brierleys game has improved hell of a lot from the last time he played for us and hes definitely improved his defence

Fair point Harold. (welcome back, by the way)

However, if you are looking for a half back, to back up a chance created by any of your fifteen, I would back Ryan against any of them. For me, it's all about horses for courses, (Charlie would know all about that kind of thing) and pace is one of the attributes we don't possess a lot of. While we had Ryan on loan, John Duffy was utilising him the way he was used in the 'early days'. I would think we would have to find a place for him - although not at the expense of Gregg, Josh or Riddy!

You just beat me to it there, 'kaykie'! I seem to remember Ryan looking pretty creative, when Toronto took us apart early in 2018!

Harold,I respect your opinion even though I don’t agree,John Woods was THE finest rugby player I have ever seen , but he didn’t move any of his teams round the park or direct play, neither did Shaun Edwards, he relied a lot on my owd mate Andy Greg to do that,as Riddy did with Ryan, I have already said young Josh Woods is not our player he’s a Wigan player.

Ryan has the X factor at times even he doesn’t know what he is going to do.Watch this years Bash when he scores under the posts, where he makes his run from. The best support player I ever saw was Terry Lamb from Canterbury, a support Legend,Ryan isn’t in his class but in this League, I’d pick him every time.
Again just my opinion. :thumb:
