Rowley left Toronto the season before they gained promotion, McDermott was the coach the season when they secured promotion, and as I eluded to his contribution to Salford was immense in an assistants role in SL, to me that is his level in SL, as a very very good offensive assistant, not as a head coach.
There are a few good assistants knocking about in SL e.g. Lee Briers, Sean Long, Keiron Purtill who have yet to take the heads responsibility's woukd you say they are not SL coaches?

I would say they have been around SL coaches. Yet none are proven at that level. Even Purtill. They are all number 2’s or 3’s.

The level of your club that you are playing at determines what level of coach is required. Does it not?

A 70 year old fella threw a team together with 2 training sessions and beat England tonight .

That’s experience at that level.

So do you feel the coach was the primary reason?

It’s a contribution of both players and experienced coaches. The emphasis on coaches not coach. Leigh got to super league in 2017 using that reason. Paul Cooke showing the way.

The lack of clarity in your thought process is astonishing!

Personally I think Haggerty has got the job for the remainder of the season. Only players being loaned out rather than brought in, I think 'the board of Directors' :) know that we will be back in the championship in 2022, barring a miracle or a re-structure of the leagues.

Why do folk keep saying , we signed a championship side , then played in SL , I must have heard this off every Leigh fan , we all knew what was being expected .What happened to the SL ready slogan ?
They will be press ganging fans at the next home game .

If you have been walking in the wrong direction for months, it take months to get back on track.

Re: Head Coach - The Candidates : Sat Jul 03, 2021 10:30 am
We should have had an experienced coach from day1 but I have always believed that DB can't cope with an experienced SL or NRL coaching team. He either needs to be in full control or shows too much loyalty to people not up to the task. The lack of news about a new coach seems to imply that Haggerty will remain in that position and so the wallopings will continue. What Leigh need to realise is that the crowds have been kept away in 2020 because of the china virus and with a team that is getting beaten every week in 2021, plus the high attendance fee, the crowds won't return. After 2 years of not watching rugby, people will find something else to do, especially in summer, and you will struggle to get those people back. The lack of player recruitment for next season (which I fully understand as we will be in the championship) and the rejection by the idiotic RFL to run an Academy doesn't bode well for the future.

Graham, at the moment it’s easier to find Nemo than a new Coach for Leigh, and I agree with all your reasons for not wanting to watch the Centurions , we have had 3 seperate seasons in SL and seem to have learned nothing , however I hopefully will be back at the LSV next year whatever League we are in .
