Why do folk keep saying , we signed a championship side , then played in SL , I must have heard this off every Leigh fan , we all knew what was being expected .What happened to the SL ready slogan ?
They will be press ganging fans at the next home game .

Well did we not sign a championship side Charlie??

And if we’d have said we weren’t ready for SL we wouldn’t have got the gig, with fans then criticising our lack of ambition.

Fans are fickle, and most are happy to twist the knife and use any excuse for a whinge

Col, in my opinion yes we did sign a side that would win the Championship , but as for lack of ambition,I think a fair bit of time and effort ,along with planning ,was put into our SL bid , yet not much done to increase the quality of players.

I agree fans are extremely fickle ,at the moment there seems to be a lot of reasons why fans won’t go to games, wherever we are playing next year , I will be there ,and I don’t think fans will use any excuse for a whinge , they see it as a right to give their opinion , as all fans do in every sport .

After all IF England win tonight and I hope they do ,they will be rated very highly by fans , yet if we lose the criticism will be very vocal.Myself I’m not a football fan I prefer cricket , but again blokes like Ben Stokes,Jos Buttler, and Eoin Morgan Who are top players get criticised if they play below expectation , it’s part of life in professional sport.

Graham, at the moment it’s easier to find Nemo than a new Coach for Leigh, and I agree with all your reasons for not wanting to watch the Centurions , we have had 3 seperate seasons in SL and seem to have learned nothing , however I hopefully will be back at the LSV next year whatever League we are in .

I hope to watch them at the LSV again, too Charlie (if they reduce the entrance fee so I can afford it lol) but people do find other things to do during a long layoff. I just despair for RL in general, especially after that idiotic Academy ruling by the RFL. Every team should be encouraged to run an academy and reserve team if they are able to. That's where the next generation of players come from. Those young lads will be lost to the game. It's really good to see homegrown talent making it into the 1st team. Possibly mistaken, but I think Higson, Ian Mort, Stu Donlan and Mickey Higham were our last to come through the ranks. I sometimes think that the RFL has been infiltrated by the RFU.

Re: Head Coach - The Candidates : Sun Jul 04, 2021 10:21 am
I am 68 and have been a regular for all but 7 of those years, my dad was fanatical and I was introduced and taken along from that very early age.
In all that time apart from a couple of blips along the way - when it could be said we over performed and had some success - in the grand scheme of Rugby League rankings we are in our natural position being a team that sits somewhere between 10th and 15th position on the League Ladder. I remember my grandad - another fanatical Leigh fan going back to the early 1900's - telling me that if Leigh RLFC gets into my blood be expected to be let down as you journey through the years with team, it was something he said he expierenced through all the years he followed the club.
What I am saying is those of a similar age as myself will recognise what I mean, those much younger will have experienced a snapshot of what the club is all about, we promise so much but can not deliver over any extended period, we are what we are it will never change.
Once we all realise that, we can have our moans and grumbles, even from time to time our cheers and jubilations, but it will be like the hands of a clock and come back round to our natural position in the order of merit, no question that we will - baring a radical change by the League - be relegated this season, if so we will be one of the better teams in the Championship next year, if we stay in SL we will be fighting to stave of relegation next season.
Those fans like me who have rode the roller coaster of being a Leigh fan for a very long time will continue to get along and support the team it's in our blood part of our make up, I have moaned as much as anyone and I reserve the right to do so as long as I am investing in the team through the turnstiles, but if we are philosophical about it we should be expierienced enough to know that we will sit on either side of the 12th position just go and enjoy it or moan whichever way it is we can't keep away.

Totally agree Harry , I’m 69 in a couple of weeks so am from the same era as yourself , whatever I whinge about or criticise won’t stop me turning up at the LSV next year , wherever League we are in .

well ive been attending since 63 so have seen the good the bad and the useless and maybe we have seen the best of it
getting more pessimistic about rl all round at the moment the game is stagnant at best the current rules make iy not rl as we know it many pro clubs are on the brink pf liquidation lots of amateur clubs have give up or are well down on numbers of teams our own two former top amateur teams are shadows of former selves
locally we have not produced any players of real note and in any numbers for over 30 years what does that say for the greatest game
perhaps we are paying price for lack of investment or joined up thinking
bloody hell no walk down cut for me somebody post a positive unlikely as this forum has gone the same way

Just for you mr mills, the club has not taken any government loans and still has cash in the bank. We went down in 2005 with nowt but Arthur’s cheque book. We have some good men on the board with profitable business's and an owner who has already wiped off millions in loans. We threw the dice this year but have not thrown good money after bad, if we go down we will be strong if we get a few quality players on board we have a few very winnable games in the run in

as you tend to do you paint a positive picture and i dont knock that.
just looking at our own situation 2005 is ancient history now especially with the extraordinary events of the last 12 months
have any of the good men invested in the club apart from sponsorship and elbow grease the help to Ryan is applauded. If they have we may have money in the bank.i am fortunate.i done my bit like others sts/ lisa/ lottery but not been enough able to do so to fill the bucket surely
we only have to look at the pies to see how clubs are struggling are they insolvent really and we are in a better position than them?
did the owner really want to go into SL this year or as reported was he persuaded to apply
i think we still have a chance of staying up we will have to do it on the pitch cant see anyone ducking out of playing us and gifting points
