Salford game and looking forward. : Sun Aug 22, 2021 9:21 am
Firstly will this be the lowest SL attended game this season?
With our lack of in ground support and Salfords not very large away following will we be lower than the Restricted attendance for the Wigan game of 1,702, or the Catalan game of 1,840, last week v Leeds it was the best attendance with 2,818 beating both of the Hull clubs who I thought brought more speccies than Leeds, so was that a resurgence of our support, if so I don't think the second half will be attracting many non season ticket holder back.

I would also suggest that this is our last chance of breaking our duck this season albeit Salford have had some good results of late, so I make Salford firm favourites especially with Lolohea and Brown at half back, I can't see us beating Saints, Catalan both away HKR (magic) Wakefield home or Huddersfield away, that is not being pessimistic it is being realistic, what I will say though is in all the games in my opinion with the exception of Cas away the players have not left much out on the field at full time, for that they have to be applauded

On the bright side next season we go back to regular Sunday afternoon Home and Away 15:00 kick offs, with the exception of clashing with Man U. Women,

Let's hope that we can put a very competitive team together to compete for the Championship title next season albeit the loss of Thornily, Hood, Russell and Mason will be hard to replace, hoping we can keep Bell (but apparently Saints are in hot pursuit) and Brierley, will Tomkins still be coming? and the two Aussies are unknown to us yet, a lot of the remainder are getting a bit too long in the tooth or not good enough and the younger ones are not in my opinion ready yet albeit Brand as had two good performances at Full back, but if Brierley and Elliott stay we are well covered in that position, but in all honesty Elliot has not lived up to his billing for mine quite dissapointing for me like Nathan Peat so let's hope the two new Aussies are much better than these, and the rest of tge present squad may well be looking for other clubs next season. I hope that the majority of this squad does not remain but are replaced, but to do that we need to start recruitment now, we know we will be relegated, but where is the yet to be named Rugby Manager who will be in charge of recruitment of the player's and hopefully an expierenced coach also, we really need to forget the one year contracts and take on player's who can also perform at SL level and hopefully the recruitment is better than squad of '18 that Cunningham brought to the club, in a nutshell we need to get the majority of the team who will make the transition to SL in '23, anything other than that will be the same old same old.
Just my opinion.

I think you'll get a decent crowd tbh. Salford often take more away than at home (Go figure that one out...) it's within spitting distance of most of our support and you're right in saying that it's the best chance for a victory for Leigh. Surely that'll bring out more of the regulars?

As for the game, from a Salford point of view, it really depends on which Salford turns up. We've scrapped out a lot of our results this year, which is a good thing and shows they've got a bit about them, but we've been error-ridden all year. If you add in the fact that we seem to always have at least one yellow card a match at the moment it could be anyone's game. Salford will probably be favourites which also makes me nervous, as we often like to upset the bookies.

Will be there but failing to see any bright side this season. The season of continual losses and low attendances will feed the SL consortium view for a closed shop. Think next season will also be poor as we will lose all our best players and struggle to put together a decent squad. This season has undo all the reputation building of the past years! Hope I am wrong. Building for 2022 is the challenge now and we need to start building asap.

The Championship Maurice,
Mr Beaumont was at the meeting or some other member of Leigh who would have reported back to him as it was stated all SL clubs were represented in the meeting that "allegedly" dismissed the RFL idea of 14 team SL in '22 in favour of maintaining a 12 strong SL whilst maintaining P&R.
Now call me gullible if you wish but for it to be reported as widely as it was, I would say there is no smoke without fire and it was leaked to the press, I honestly don't know why Leigh are keeping quiet about it having been shafted by SL this season as so would any other club that had been chosen to step up.
What has not been disclosed yet is what is happening in '23, is it going to be 2 x10's? in my opinion it will be back to Licencing, but this time a proper list of Criteria has to be formulated and adhered to, and I would also include in that list a condition that any club applying for SL status would be committal on spending a minimum amount of money on a raised cap level, on the promotion of the club to entice spectators, having finance made available for the local amatuer scene, and running an academy, I would not have the academy as part of the criteria, but a mandatory requirement that all SL clubs chosen has to have an academy, without that RFL who have just awarded 7 year licences would actually be blocking any club that they did not allow to run an academy from applying for SL, and all this financial commitment would have to be supplemented by placing a bond repayable over a 3 - 5 year period, if a club defaults they lose the bond.
Now I don't know if Mr Beaumont could finance that alone or he could entice a group of wealthy buisness people to join him, or better still an individual like his mate Dr Koukash who I believe has been hovering about Leigh and the club recently, I really wish that could happen.

Was the recruitment bad for 2018? Toronto and Leeds were the only teams to beat us once we had a decent head coach. That's the biggest lesson to take from that year IMO.

I thought Salford fans travelled *the short distance* very well & were in good numbers, especially considering every Club's attendances have been affected by the pandemic.
